What do I need to do?

Is it as simple as putting 2F double pulleys on the F engine and fabbing bracketry?

Any writups on this? I checked IH8MUD, no dice...

What kind of A/C compressor do you need to add? If you are not after a OEM correct A/C I would either use the Vintage air compressor and use the 2F alt mount(Lance W's writeup on rockcrawler.com for FJ55 Air Cond shows good pics of this setup)

OR

FJ60 RH motor mount. You will need to change rubber mounts(the FJ60's have no index ring by the threads sticking up(or hole)
They should fit, measurements are the same, but I have not actually done this swap. Then you will need the 3 groove FJ60 pulley/damper. Use the FJ60 compressor then. This is the route I am going to use to install a A/C compressor on my FJ55 for A/C.

If you are feeling like fabricating a mount for the compressor, I have a stock Toyota Early to 1/'75 RH motor mount which incorporates a mount for the A/C compressor. It has a flat surface that would be perfect for a sanden comressor refit common to old mustangs that had york/tecumsah comressors. You can use it to clone. It is bent out of flat steel and welded with braces....

Power steering: I installed the JTO bracket on a friends 2F and it has noticable misalignment between P/S pulley and crank/other acc. Would not recommend it. Some have used a 2F smog pump bracket and moved the alt to the other side.

Whatchyou mean no writeups on IH8MUD? Doesn't the F engine have the same 3 bolt holes on the passenger side of the head as the 2F?

If so, you can hang a York compressor an alternator and a Toyota PS pump off of it.

Got that info, the a/c I am getting is a take off TLC from a 2F. The bracket for the compressor comes with it and yes it will bolt to the side of the head.

What I need it info on installing the 2F pulley's on the F. Lppks straight forward, just seeing if there are any tricks...

Just swap the pulleys. There is a seal sleeve from Chicago Rawhide that works if you need one. The one for the 22r's will NOT work contrary to the BS parts catalogs.

Glad I scanned down the posts, I almost posted the same question about the pulley. Now I just have to get a pulley. Just to clarify, the 3 groove is better to use than the 2 groove, correct? When getting belts for this is there an easy way to measure for belt size, instead of trial and error. I am guessing having the pulley diameter's and measuring from the center of one, in the mounted position, to the center of the other would work?

3 groove is not necessarily better. The pulley is riveted to the flange and is prone to loosening up and falling off. It is also longer and you may find it hard to use the outboard pulley on a FJ40 w/o rearranging the fan and fan shroud.

The easy way to determine the length of the belt is just run a half inch wide tape measure around the pulleys. Measure it at the smallest and biggest lenght of the aduster pulley and get something on the smaller side of the range but not smaller than the smallest. It has always worked for me.

You can tell the belt number from the OD of the circumference and the width of the belt: the first two munbers are the width in 32nds of an inch, whil the next three numbers are the OD circumference in inches. A 17725 belt is 17/32 wide and 72.5 inches around.

There are earlier 3 groove pulleys where the A/C pulley(the furthest aft) pulley is actually machined in the balancer, just about 2" bigger in diameter. My 73 F motor has this for the factory A/C in an FJ55. The only issue with these style is the very narrow(15/32") forward groove. Not a problen as this is the same size as a lot of the saginaw P/S pump pulleys...

If it were aftermarket A/C, I'd figure a way to use one of the two grooves in a stock US 2F motor(the common non A/C FJ40).
