I installed a shackle flip in my 71' F100 4X4. Now the passenger rear tire rubs the inside fender well when I get on it. How can I eliminate this problem? Anyone who has done the shackle flip ever have this problem?

Whaddya mean? Are you getting squat/torque lean? Rubs it where? Side, top?

The passenger side rear wheel hits the inside of the fender well on the inside of the tire. The dif pulls to the drivers side.It actually moves about 6 " .

You could make a bumpstop to limit upward travel. A pic would really help us understand the problem.

I eliminated the shackle flip and the problem went away. I drove the same way as I did before and even worse and no problems. I guess the shackle flip was not strong enough to limit side to side travel of the rear dif. I really want to lose the rear lift blocks. I called the local spring shops and they will not re arch my stock springs and will not make over 4" springs. I need to find some place that makes a 6" spring for my application. My rear leafs are 52" from spring eye to spring eye and 2-1/4" wide. I am waiting for eaton to get back to me. In the mean time I pulled spring perches and shackles from a 78 Bronco. I was told that they are the same as 73-79 f150's . They are 3" wide but I do not know the spring eye to spring eye distance. Does anyone know if I can use these 73-79 or 78-79 bronco springs in my 71' f100 4x4? or a place that sells 6" springs for it? Thanks

Deaver is located in Santa Ana, Ca. I don't recall where Alcan is and also you might wanna try National spring co. in El Cajon, Ca. while you're calling around. Sorry I don't have any phone #'s or websites off hand but a quick Google search will solve that :D

I would have to think one of the lift kit companies like Skyjacker would have replacement leaf packs like you are looking for but what do I know
They would probably be cheaper too but not perform as well as a custom pack.

Did you replace your spring eye bushings and shackle bushings when you performed the flip? Soft stock bushings are usually in pretty bad shape, the position of the shackle after the flip is much more prone to side to side deflection and worn or soft bushings will dramatically affect this. I had similar problems with my flip, first thing I did was replaced all the bushings with new poly units and voila.. problem solved.

I just went through this up here in Canada a few weeks ago for a 69, everybody was on back order and custom springs are WAY too pricey. Just go the the wreakers and get 4 spring hangers from a F-350, F-250, or 4x4 F-150 (the front mount for the rear springs), and get the shackles too. The springs are 3" wide, put those hangars on your truck with the shackle flip. Set it on the axle and see if you need the lifted springs, Im shure you will need some , but this will tell you how much. I think between 2 to 4 inchers and they will be like over the counter, no back order. I know its alot more work than buying the right ones but its worth it. Longer/ softer springs, those stacked 2-1/4 springs efing suck, and the 3" wide springs are far more resistant to lateral movement, plus you get a stronger main leaf.. By the way to save money you could just get those used springs re-arched for what ever height you need. If the spring shop doesnt want to do it tell em its custom, youll put the shackle where it needs to be
