View Full Version : Ford guys--How hard is it to put a motor in an Expedition
97 Expedition 4x4 5.4 V8. How do you get the motor in? You don't take off the body, do you? Thanks DMG

Taking the front clip off will be very helpful. They pack those motors in like sausages.

My dad recently had a navigator with a blown motor in his shop. After doing some research, they ended up taking the body off the frame. He said everyone he talked to said that was the only way to do it. He said he had navigator spread out across three bays!

There must be an easier way than that.

He did a lot of calling around to Ford Dealers and such and said that was all they could come up with. There might be a better way but thats what he ended up doing.

There's not. I've witnessed/assisted 20+ Expedetion/F150 motor swaps during their development and that was the only way to do it. . . without drilling spotwelds and rewelding the front on. Hell, the back half of the motor is under the cowl and there isn't much room from the front of the block to the radiator support x-member.
Should the wife's Exped motor die, I fear replacing it. But it would give me a good excuse to buy a hoist. :)

I hope there is. I just bought a 97 with a bad motor
The price was right, though :grinpimp:
