as I am preparing to pull the frozen solid engine from the disco, than pull the running(ok runable if it had a dissy..) engine from teh '89 and install 'the heads, timing cover, dist and all ancellories from the disco on it...but I remembered that when teh waterpump grenaded it tore up the timing cover where the impeller spins...and am wondering if that hasd ended up causing it to not pump at full volume if at all...which could have caused the other issues?? hmm!
When I remove i will inspect, but think I may need a replacement(not to mention I think it may ahve been leaking from somewhere there? when it froze up, there was a trail from thhat area pouring onto teh highway?? havn't even looked at in discust, but will see when I pull the engine
what can I expect to pay for a used one? anyone havef one sitting around and available for a goodly sum?

There is one on ebay right now for around $225.
I'm not sure I'd be real comfortable with a used one for fear of the same happening, and wear in the oil pump.

hmmm! hadn't thought of that! :( well I know a NEW one is pricey! my friend just bought one for his '89 as he sensed there was wear in the oil pump area...
now really wondering if I should juist mothball the disco after all until I can afford to buy a good low mileage 4.2 or 4.6 to put in there and do as my dad suggested for last year...finish up the S-IIA and just drive that.....or the S-III....but it really gets hot in fresno in summer and I wanted the option of A/C....besides teh S-IIA is going up for sale as soon as I am finished with it.
Paul(possibly getting a mercedes 420 as part trade for ressurecting the old Kim Novak Mk II Jaguar for my wifes uncle, so I may be driving in style anyway)

On a few occasions, I have seen replacement oil pump gears, but lost the links. I suppose one could polish the inside of the plate that holds the gears in the front cover. I would imagine this would reverse much of the damage, but don't really want to do it, go to the trouble of reassembling the entire engine, only to find it wasn't as good an idea as I originally thought it was.
SWMBO (shopgrrl) and I were just discussing my lack of interest in experiments where the likelihood of success isn't as high.

Bad plan. Seen similar trys on other makes with similar style pumps fail.

I have one, somewhere, wait I know where it is . . . I think. No guarantees on condition. I was told it came off a truck with a slipped liner . . .
PM if interested.

Are you looking for the timing cover with the oil pump built into it for the serpentine front setup? If so I have a NEW one sitting here (complete with seals and new oil pump) I could sell you for 485. I stumbled across it a while back and bought it for a project we are not going to do now.
