Hey all,

I've decided to go with the NP205 instead of an Atlas in my forthcoming Ramjet 350/NV4500 swap. (the reasons were mostly monetary so please don't bug me about how stupid I am for not picking the Atlas. ;) )

I would appreciate any feedback regarding things such as clutch issues, tranny shifter linkage, t-case shifter linkage from people who have either of these units in their own SWB Jeep.

Thanks alot!

Got the 205 yet?

For what you do the atlas really didn't make much sence. I think you will be fine with the 6.34:1 first and the 2:1 low.

Good luck:D

Depending on lift you might have a problem with driveshaft length, I just put a Vortec 350 with a nv4500 and a dana 300 with a set of 3.5" BDS springs SOA there was no was way I could mahe a driveshaft work, my DS angle was at almost 40°, I changed to 44044 for rear springs and dropped the tranny a few inches to get my ° down to something more useable (30°).

Thanks man.

Yeah, Even with the 205 I'll still have a crawl ratio of around 53.6:1. I'm currently at 45.6:1 so it's an improvement. Besides, I wouldn't wanna go too low with all that mind bending torque attacking my tiny little girlie axles :flipoff2: (at least not until I get some CTMs and Warn shafts up front and probably some sorta alloys out back too...).

Gawd Jeeps are expensive. I spent almost 6 freakin' grand yesterday and I still don't even have a transfer case yet. And I'm getting conflicting reports on which year would make the best donor. I wish I could find somebody who already did this swap... I gotta lotta questions.

I have a total of around 5 inches of lift (SUA) so hopefully that will be enough... Not sure how the length of an NP205 compares to a D300...
I've got an inch of body lift too... I've heard that helps when trying to squeeze one of these beasts (NV4500) between body and skid plate. So I got that goin' for me... Which is nice. ;)

Not to change my own topic or anything Andy, :D but what headers/manifolds are you running and what do you think of 'em? The RJ350 comes with Vortec heads on it... I think maybe I'll make a new post about headers... Post there if you want. Or here; whatever. :rasta:

Thanks,
Jake

I suppose you need a Ferd 205?

Gimmie some rough ideas on years. I have to heaad out to Delano this weekend to pick up my 4.3, and that guy has a few Fords that need to be parted out, and plenty of other T-cases.

Near as I can tell, I need an '85-'91 GM case and stock adapter (for the circular 6-bolt pattern) and the short, 32 spline input gear from a '79?-85' GM case (one came behind the TH400 tranny only--not the SM465--it had a different input gear). Or I could just use the longer input gear and a spacer, but It sounds like I won't have a lot of driveshaft length to play with, so I'll probably swap input gears.

If you see a removed '79-'85 GM case for super cheap that looks good, I'd take the input gear out of it, but I'm gonna start calling yards up here for the '85-'91 case. Don't go outta your way. I'm not expecting it's gonna be too hard to find stuff up here.

I think the ford cases were 31 spline and I'm relatively certain the bolt patterns are different.

Thanks man,
Jake

I've been running a Chevy 350, Turbo 350, and a 205 in a CJ-7 for a couple years. My rear drive shaft is 21" long with a 9" Ford rear. Even with the low pinion of the 9" and SOA plus 2" I've not had any trouble with it. The pinion is pointed up directly at the transfer case yoke which is pretty severe. Like I said though it's never been a problem. I made my own linkage which was fairly simple. I'm in the middle of putting an ORD 203/205 doubler kit in it now. If my measurements are correct I should still have a 16" rear driveline. If not I guess I'll move the rearend back.
