OK i finally decided to do it and have enough money to complete it... if i have left out anything let me know

intentions: wheel it 2 weekends a month hard...clayton, hot springs, and 1- 2 week long trip a year to Moab (trailered), or other, yet still be able to drive it to work...on nice days

have 98 TJ 56K miles, 4.0L Auto, 231, 6" lift, 2" body lift, 1"drop t-case, 1 1/2" motor lift, D30,D35 4.10,EZ F&R, 36" tsl's...have done real well without breaking too many rear axles (2-year), full cage, dual batteries, dual air compressors, winch, nerf bars, bumpers.

plans:
4.0L...pacesetter header, add a snorkle (homemade) change: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, belt, O2 sensor, drill PS pump for Ram

Auto (32rh)add deep pan, new Torque converter (mine is shot) spin on ext filter, rebuild, shift kit, temp gauge

231 install JB SYE

Rear axle Dana 61... (67" wide) 2" wheel spacers (you will see why later) 5.13 gears (3-spd auto) ring gear spacer, spool, master install kit, axle seals, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, brake lines, CV driveshaft; move the rear axle back 8" from where it is now (stock) housing will be shaved

Front Dana 60 (from a dodge) 71" wide, 5.13's, Detroit, Master install, axle seals, U-joints, Ball joints, wheel bearings, calipers clearanced for 15" wheels, pads, brake lines, disabled CAD system, move front axle 3" foreward (from stock) housing will be shaved

Misc... line lock, Hydrolic ram (for steering), 5 rod ends (for steering), 16 radius arm bushings (for suspension) Aluminum fuel Tank (in bed), summit racing seats, 5-points, air tank for comperssors, Mustang Fuel pump, new shocks, brake lights (rear fenders cut out all the way arround), tailgate hinges relocated to bottom and plated, new waterproof CD player, 5 1/4" speakers

Susp will be 4 link front and rear (similar to desertoy's, or camo's)with 1 3/4" ERW 1.56 wall tubing, i will build 2" lift into the spring perch on the bottom in the front, 2" into the upper spring perch in the back, run my 6" springs, no trac bars, custom sway bars, rockstomper beadlocked rockcrawler wheels standard BS (11" wide), 42x15x15 TSL's, all steering (tie rod, Drag link) will be custom made

I think i can do everything myself for about 6 grand

I don't think I would trust the 231 to 42's(Go Atlas). Also, why not just run a Ford 60 up front (HP). I would imagine that several places in Dallas have no idea that a HP is worth much more than a regular. Have you planned to address the sending unit issue on the gas tank?

Oh, and changing the sig line to what you eventually plan on doing to the rig, for whatever reason(Impress people) comes off as kinda:rainbow: :flipoff2:

already everything but the gears lockers and tires and the jeep is stripped from the frame down+ tranny, t-case so the sig will be right when it is out back together and it does say (under construction)

cheapest price for HP60 is 750

231??? not spending 2500 on an atlas i think the 231 will be fine with an imput ratio of 2.8-1 and a final crawl ratio of 38-1

Do they make a 5.13 ratio for the D61

I have to agree on ditching the NP231; I wouldn't trust any chain driven t-case with 42"s. If you don't want to spend the money on an Atlas, you can modify a Dana 300 to fit the TJ. It's no Atlas, but it's a big improvement over the NP231. Other than that, what you're planning sounds pretty

Somehow it's cheaper to take a Dodge D60, re-tube it for left-hand diff? What a PITA. If you're keeping the dodge axle, swap in a D300 t-case so you don't have to re-tube. Stronger than that N-POS-231

yeah ditch the 231 if your gonna run 42, but why not just run 44 TSL? Also remember me from zack Tuckers old shop? I had the red YJ its quite differnent now, so any way I need a front 60 got any?:skull:

Are you shopping u-pull-its or just regular junkyards? Friend of mine got one for 200 out of a 93. Granted that is an awesome deal, but there may still be some. How much extra are you looking at to switch over the dodge? Why not just go to the D300, leave the front axle on the passanger side, and get two birds with one stone? (Assuming your 60 is passenger side now)
If it isn't, sell it, and buy one that is, and a D300, or something. The 231 gets replaced by a lot of people for a reason. That JB SYE is probably about what it would cost to change 60's if you need to, and you could sell the 231 for about what you could get a decent 300 for.

98 Dodge D60 is Drivers side drop from the factory.

any ideas about the sending unit ??

with a ring gear spacer you use D60 gears in a D61 (all the way to 7.17)

been to 4 P&P's here in Dallas and 2 in gainsville no luck HP60

Yes i remember you mangled, Zack is now partners with another guy & moved down the street they are putting a 2000 Ford 5.4L, Auto, X-case, axles, and 38's in a M-715 ambulance. How is the cage ??? how come i never see pice of it on here ?

unique concepts (972)-221-2569

anyone know how much the D300 adapter is to a 32RH ??
i will check it out... (anyone know where a 71" pass drop D60 is?)
