i heard that it was so insane most people left sunday morning and didnt even run. the course was supposedly to hard and every one was breaking.

i could have been misinformed but i hear it was beyond difficult

I was there yesterday. It wasn't beyond difficult, but it was challenging for most of the guys. Things were driveable, but rig after rig would point out due to cone locations. Lots of guys were a bit overmatched. Some of the experieced guys drove pretty well. I know lots of my club took pics and video so maybe that'll get posted. One guy in my club drove the stock class and was doing well, but still couldn't avoid cones. I think it just needs a few bigger names and different lines for the different classes to excite it up. It was also a bit unorganized and the obstacles were crowded, but that will be corrected in time. All in all it was a good place and setup, imo.

I think the rain had a lot to do with the difficulty of the obstacles. It POURED down there all night on Friday. I think the stock guys were a tad outmatched. The first obstacle for the stock guys was almost impassable without winching. AFAIK, only one competitor had completed a course with zero points (Chris Pearson in mod). Only ONE unlimited rig even competed.

I competed in the stock class. Yesterday, I'm pretty sure everyone pointed out on 3 of the 4 courses that we ran. It was a bit frustrating to sit around for 8 hours and only run 4 courses... 3 of which I pointed out on, but I got -5 on one. :flipoff2: (Spotter ride along bonus) Plus I made it to the top of the last obstacle that I ran even though I took out every cone on the way! I decided not to run today since I still had to drive my competition rig home on the interstate! Plus I wanted to get out of there before dark. I watched for a couple hours today, and it looked like only one of the 5 courses was completed by stock class trucks. The event would have been much more fun if there had been a little more organization so that there wasn't so much of a traffic jam on every obstacle.

Very wet on saturday! The trails were a little extreme in some places for all the rigs to be running the same obstacles. ie #9. It was a good weekend. Team Twisted Intentions placed 6th in stock and tied for last in stock mod due to sheared ball joints and knuckle on #4.

Congrats to all. Hope everyone got home safely.

ie #9
That course was insane  We were the only ones in modified to attempt it from what I saw, we tried backing in then pulling forward to complete it, we got pushed sideways and had it standing on the back crossmember, with no way to go but backwards(right into the tape 2 ft behind us). Everyone in modified 40'd on the first 3 courses saturday, then we scored a -5 on the 4th course.

yeah, #9 was a hard one. We didn't even get staged in the starting gate. I kept slipping down the hill trying to get lined up. There were some nice rolls on #3, myself included. If anyone has footage of that, email me. I'd love to see it from the outside. All in all it was a good weekend. We took home 3rd in the modified class. Congrats to Brian of Team Unemployed on his well deserved win!! Keep the pics coming guys. If anyone has pics of my XJ, red with yellow cage and hack work, could you please pm or email me. Good weekend overall. We ran the stock Class, i spotted for Half Ass engineering(White YJ from WV). The rain sucked but made the courses very interesting. A couple of the courses were fairly ambitious for the stock class, 9 and 2 come to mind. All stock competitors pointed out on , 2, 9 and 5 i believe. Course 6 was great we just picked the wrong line. The cones were tight on all the courses but the out of bound tap was really tight on a couple. It was our first event ever and the wet courses were made it a blast, totally level playing field. I was bummed when we went out of bounds on #2 but after watching the Mod class I didnt feel so bad, they couldnt get up very far either.

It was a blast watching the Mod guys go off #3. Bottoms up also was fun to watch you guys beat the hell out of the TJ but never gave up. FlexJ, i was the guy sitting at the first gate when you were trying number 9 and the front kept sliding down the hill. Nice XJ, the exo held up great on #3.

Thanks to Chris for putting on the event and thanks to all the judges and vendors. It was a great time and we will be back in November. Everyone was nice and helpful. Chris's power was out yesterday so he didnt know when he could update the web with points and final standings.

The wind sucked, our tents got trashed and we had to sleep in the truck all weekend. Thanks to the SV4W guys for letting us use the grill and giving us some food:beer:

Definitely an experience! And 5th place isn't so bad for our first comp. :D

The competition was a blast! It was great to see that many dedicated people out there in the cruddiest weather! It rained buckets and winds blew up to 60 mph, but the teams hung in there and gave it their all! It was our first competition and we had a great time! Not only did we have a blast wheeling, but it was really cool how we all hung out and swigged beers together!

Eugene's spotter said (with a southern drawl) it best, "we may talk trash now, but ya'll can come on over and drink beers with us later"!

I think the most exciting run was when the red/yellow Cherokee launched off the cliff into the stream, rolled onto the roof, then rolled right out of it onto his wheels to finish the course!

Thanks a million to Ted at PEAK EMPIRE EXTREME OFFROAD and to RAUSCH CREEK for addicting us to competing!!! And let's not forget to thank Chris, the trail marking sadist, and Heather Packard for having us lunatics in your backyard!

-Holly

I agree with you two, those courses were a little sadistic for stock class, but it was still an absolute blast. The sportsmanship was definitely excellent.

Team Marshy Creek, what size and kind of rope were you all running. We snapped our brand new 5/16 amsteel on #5. It was the third pull, winched up #8, winched over Kyle and winched up 5, then snap. It broke 1' from the fairlead, in the air. Not rubbing on anything.

I will agree its highly addicitve.

FWIW, we zero'ed the creek#4 and Cone Killers -1'ed #4.

We were using Myakka Outfitters Blue Diamond 100' 5/16 rope. Ours took a beating...It all happened so fast I wasn't sure if it was actual rock rash or if it happened when the Jeep slipped back about 6" on the slick rock, maybe a combination of the two? The cover was in place on the boulder but as we winched it moved. PEAK EMPIRE hooked us up with a new line, Viking 125'. Can't wait to give that one a try.

If it was the break I saw, your syn winch line snap caused a bit of controversy. Some said that the rope must have been defective. Others said it snapped because the syn winch line was hooked to a tow strap.... The only good thing is that it broke while you were on the side of the hill, not the 80 degree hill you were just winching up!!!! I would definitely send that one back to Amsteel to have them check it out and see why it snapped and have them replace it. You guys gave the trails hell! Nice driving/spotting!

YJ4RoX
04-04-2005, 02:15 PM
Thanks. I know you all wheeled your butts off as well. It was our first event too. See you all in November:D

It was pulling hard and that section of rope had no rash on it. The rear axle was hooked on a rock, but we have winched with cable with the jeep in a much harder bind than that. The line hook was attached to a clevis on the tree saver. I dont know why that would cause it to break. It snapped a good 25' from the hook/clevis. and at least 16" from the fairlead. Jesse is calling amsteel or the vendor today. I know when i get some for my rig it will be 3/8's. I hope amsteel stands behind their product.

Oh well at least he didnt blow my spool up, we had to pull mine out on friday and put in his jeep.

I'm glad you all did well.

With Jess as a wheelman and you spotting, I figured you all would do well - even though it was your first comp. I was wondering more if the jeep would hold together more than anything. Jess has been pounding on it a lot more in the last year.

Despite the weather, I had a great time. We definitly didn't expect to win, and after breaking on the first obstacle, didn't expect to finish. I had a great crew to get my Jeep back together and Applachian Offroad hooked me up with a new ring and pinion in order to run Sunday. Thanks.

BigWoody- Thanks for the show!

As far as the courses; from a modified stand point, they were close to perfect for dry conditions. And it was a good thing there were so few rigs on Sunday, else there would have been more of a traffic problem.

Guys and Gals! Great jobs! Great show! Sorry for the crappy weather. We changed things at the last moment and it screwed up the traffic on the courses. We had planed, and organized for, different routes. Some in each class doing the uphill courses day one and some doing the downhill. We changed that during the monsoon Saturday morning. We decided that we would run both groups in each classes on the same courses to make it as fair as possible (meaning all would be doing uphill or downhill). We did not want to have half of each class going downhill courses in rain and the others going uphill. Sorry for the confusion, but we did have it planned otherwise. We tried to get all of you an audience and make it so that the spectators would be able to see all from one location and not have to walk all over creation. I have competed in NEUROC before in the stock class (it was awesome and we will compete again), but it sucked that all the spectators watched the super class instead of the class I was in. This past weekend, it seemed really nice that the crowd applauded EVERYBODY on each obstacle that was challenging - more chalenging than we thought with the onslaught of rain we recieved. I apologize for the rain and for the brief chaos on the order of obstacles due to trying our best to make it fair for each competitor. We really apreciated the support of our sponsors, competitors, and staff! You guys ROCKED!!! We look forward to seeing all of you again!

Yea, many thanks to Chris n Heather for an awesome weekend. This was the first competition I've entered, and it was more of a "Hey, I got a spare weekend, let's go wheeling" than anything else. I realize now I should have prepared a bit better with both my Jeep and my plan of attack. The monsoon definitely made the courses challenging, but it was an absolute blast. I don't think i've used as much skinny pedal on the trail in the last three years than I did saturday and sunday. Sunday on course 1 the second waterfall, I used a bit too much and broke BOTH front upper controls arms, right in the center of them. Since I was lazy and didn't want the hastle of repairing them, I just watched the rest of the day, but that was after I gave it hell on the hill climb. It wasn't until after that that the breakage was realized, when I had so much axle wrap my driveshaft was binding. Congrats to the winners, and hope to see ya'll back in Crozet again.

What a great time..... We could of gone with out the Friday night Rain and the Saturday morning DOWN POUR.. I knew the courses would be much harder then planned after the rain, but its awesome to see what your rig can do if you just try.

The courses where tuff, but not undouble on an avg day... The 8" of rain over night made the course slick.. Tater (Green Toy, who won stock) seemed to dig some nice size holes before getting up the courses. This made it very difficult for the rest of us...

We (Engineered Chaos)... Timed out on 3 of the 9 courses... The time out on course 1 could/should of been avoided, 9 we pulled in an out, 2 we couldn't get up (thanks again Tater)... We Pointed out on the last cone on course 7, pointed out on 8 and 5 when we pulled cable, we scored a 12 on course 3, scored a 7 on couse 4 and we got lucky on couse 6 with 21 points....

Course 6 was very doable.... I just my driver get a little unbalanced..

In the end... It was great time.... There was a lot trash talking going on, but also LOTS of helping each other out... Lending tools, parts, team members, and when the lights when down there was an awesome Fire and lots of Joking going on...

Thanks again Chris and Heather

As far as the syn winch line snap; from my point of view it was obvious that the protector sleeve slid off the rock and the line was against the bare rock. It looked like the break happened where it was contacting the rock.
