: Hiem Joints
desertCJ 02-21-2002, 02:52 PM All right before I even ask, let me say that I have already done a search so:flipoff2: . Ok, I'm getting ready to do a four link on the rear of my cj and I am looking for opinions on the best hiems to use. I am thinking about 3/4"x3/4" hiems from Avalanche(QA-1 I think) or Aurora. I think the hiems from Avalanche have a higher static load rating and I am leaning toward these. What are you using and how have they held up? Opinions are welcome.Later:smokin:
Realsquash 02-21-2002, 02:56 PM Um I thought Avalanche heims were QA-1??? No expert here, but it also depends on what kind of "4-link" you have.

dirtrod 02-21-2002, 03:04 PM I get endura xm 10-12 (5/8x3/4) from rodend supply 40,000 + lb. rating, They are doing fine in the 4-links...
I just bought some xm 12 (3/4x3/4) for the steering, they are around 28,000 lb. I think...
desertCJ 02-21-2002, 03:16 PM thanks guys! Dirtrod, did you go with the 3/4"x5/8" over the 3/4"x3/4" because of the higher load rating? And ya, I do think the Avalanche hiems are QA-1s. I have seen a few pics of Desertoys setup and I like it, I am doin' something similar. I noticed that he has greasable hiems...what do you think about those?

Yep, because of the rating. I had some with the zerks and they broke, but they were a crappy joint in the first place, so I don't know what to say...ask the seller what the zerk does to the strength...I squirt mine with oil if they start squeeking.
The xm 12 joints I just got were just under $27
desertCJ 02-21-2002, 05:32 PM Does anyone else have any comments? I'm pretty sure that the avalanche hiems will work for $30 each, but I'm goin to check out rod end supply as well. I just don't want to spend over $200 on hiems that are gonna :nuke: half way through jackhammer!later:smokin:
Here. 1 1/4 Aurora's. 35 degrees of deflection.

BRUISER-42 02-21-2002, 07:49 PM Thanks DesertCj for concidering our spherical ends. Use the 5/8x 3/4, don't use ends with zerks (they will break), take Dirtroads advice on the lube. Clifton
elf_cruiser 02-21-2002, 08:23 PM Bruiser, i called avalanche a few weeks ago to order misalignment bushings similar to the ones shown in the above pic. I need some for 3/4" heims - to reduce to a 9/16" bolt. I was told you all stopped selling em. WHY? Bring 'em back, we need em !!!!!
desertCJ 02-21-2002, 09:14 PM Now that is a fawkin hiem! I bet those would cost me my left nut after I got 8 of them. Thanks for replying Clifton, I did notice that the 5/8 Hiems had a higher load rating. I am curious what size you are running? These or have you gone to the monster size joints like pictured above? Thanks for your help, you'll probably be getting a call from me soon.later:skull:

How do I get the number for Rodend Supply?
okcrawler 02-22-2002, 10:45 AM Why not a Jonny Joint? They cost about the same as a high $$$ heim, have higher misalignmet angles, nearly indestructable and rebuildable..... Personally, I question if heims are strong enough for a suspension on vehicles over 3500lbs. From personal experince, Heims have no cushion. Every shock or jar goes straight into the frame....
Here's a true 3/4 monster Heim, custom built by Jayson from 4140 for a friend that was ripping apart 3pc heims on a traction bar with rockwells and 44" TSLs. So far the threads have held... :D :D
