: What gearing for 33"s or 35"s?
mud-magnet 02-21-2002, 03:54 PM I'm planning on running 33-35"s pretty soon, i have a total of about 8" rear and 9" front susp. lift, and i'll be doing a 2" body in a week or so.........
what gearing should i get for the 33"s? what would work good for 35"s?
This is my daily driver bu i don't drive it much anyways, and i already have the rear diff welded........
I don't have much extream wheeling up here so breaking isn't very high, but if i do break then i'll swap toys.........
i'm getting a t-case out of a 84 zuki soon and i'm thinkin i need lower for the 33"s-35"s
thanks guys.........

ps. search didn't help much
Rerard 02-21-2002, 04:04 PM Any highway driving at all? I'd say 4.88 or numerically higher unless you do a lot of highway.
Rockrat 02-21-2002, 04:22 PM 4:57 for the sami axles will do you fine for mild 4x and street use
I run them with 33"s no prob:smokin:

eek, magneto, how'd ya get 9" of lift?! your driveshafts are gonna haaaate you LOL:D
IMHO:just a 1984 'case by itself ("baby lobster") wouldn't really help with 33's and def not with 35's. they're marginal with 31's (better than stock post '84, but still so-so. i'm talking stock 3.73 diff gears here, too)
mix of later gears and '84 gears ("rock lobster") is 4.16:1 and works out just about perfect with 3.73's and 31" tires.(for non "extreme" crawling...)
going up to 33's or 35's i would say minimum of 4.16:1 transfer case + either the Sidekick diff gearing (4.56 ? i think) or the Auto transmission model's (4.62 i think?) i could have these figures fawked a bit...haha
you might as well go for 4.88's though, while you have the diff's apart..... you can always just shift up if you're feeling to busy in a lower gear, right?

Yep you do 5:12 manual but I would not go the sidekick route my o2 and where can you get a 4:88 for a sami diff:question:

one eye wuz looking up, and one eye wuz looking down:D
if you go to Randy's R&P "import" gearing selection, the list for gears available(excerpt) goes:
Toyota.......................................Suzuk i
4.30 x...........................................
4.56 x..........................................x
4.88 x...........................................
5.29 x...........................................
5.38 x..........................................x
with the Toys on the left and Samurais on far right (sounds like square dancing, no?)
my eyes kinda glaze over when i see lotsa numbers:flipoff2: sorry
squirrelman83 02-21-2002, 09:19 PM I do some decent 'wheeling on some pretty tough trails with my set-up and it does just fine. I'm running 4.16:1 + 4.56's. It tackles everything I throw at it just fine, and I think the new suspension will help a lot (after two runs, it is performing much better). I honestly would like to be lower, though. But for anything it sounds like you are planning on, you should be more than fine. ~Steve
PS--- For that highway driving, I'm pushing about 3500 rpm at 55-60 mph.
zukstur 02-22-2002, 05:42 AM I'm running 5.38 with a 4.16 case and 33 swampers crawel ratio is great for what i do but highway driving sucks , top speed is about 60 mph.

What if he just swapped in the 6:1 t-case? Where would that put him?
in debt. (:D sorry, couldn't resist...)
gunracer1 02-22-2002, 09:33 AM 5.12s with a stock t case and 33s a 4.16 t case and 5.12s for 35s. i run this set up with 33s and it revs pretty good on the high way but great off road. i had a set of 35s and the gearing was just about perfect on the road. or a set of 4.57s and a 4.16 t case is great with 32/33s. or just a set of 5.38s and 35s. all of these will put you in the hunt.

the 9" susp. is in front from a 6" SPOA, 2" missing links(custom), and the rear springs i'm guessing they give it 1" alone.......so thats 9"s in front, the rear is at 8"s of lift with a 6" SPOA, and a 2" shackle lift........ as for the drive shafts, the rear is great, the front........mmmmmmm........ lets just say i want(need) to win that high angel.........:flipoff2:
mud-magnet 02-22-2002, 07:51 PM thanks guys, i think i'll get the 84 case(only 75$ can.) and look for a set of diff gears of some kind, it'll cost me a forturn to buy them from the states, and i can't get them anywhere here, so i'm thinking of going the sidekick route....... did anyone here make their own spacer for the kick gears???????? ?????
-Mike
Sarcastro 02-23-2002, 09:37 PM Yeah www.trailtough.com has whatcha need, and they even shipp to the great white north!!!.... I think...:D
mud-magnet 02-24-2002, 07:40 AM ok thanks, if brent is on here, how about giving me a price on the shipping and the price of the kit!!!!!!! could you make the kit? or is it a complacted thing????
thanks
-Mike
DannyL 02-24-2002, 01:32 PM Don't buy in the states when you can buy CANADIAN!!!

Zukster 02-24-2002, 06:09 PM When I had my Zuk I ran 5.38's and a 4.16 t-case and either 33" BFG M/T's or 32" SX's. I would of preferred a little lower gearing on the trail. The only highway time my Zuk saw was on the trailer.
mud-magnet 02-25-2002, 03:22 PM thanks, is the prices on breeze in can. dollars? is that the cheepest???? whay can't i make the spacer???? my rear end is welded so would i need the tube thing????
thanks

tZUKnami 02-25-2002, 06:06 PM So Mud-Magnet, are you going to need the tube sleeve or just the spacer?
mud-magnet 02-26-2002, 01:45 PM None, i'll have to weld the pins in the carrier(my spiders are welded anyways.......and mudlite said he never had a spacer and had no problems.........and well i'd trust him with anything to do with samis.........so thats the way i'm going......
