: Power steering pump issues
Lance 02-21-2002, 05:00 PM So I finally decided to pull of my napa p/s pump and put on the AGR pump that was collecting dust. Well it turns out that the pulley shafts are different.
Original Pump:

So obviously I need a new pulley. What kind of vehicle has this style pump? Looks like Im off to Pick 'N Pull tomorrow.
FYRMAN 02-21-2002, 05:04 PM Looks like the power steering shaft off of my S10. Regular old small block pump, but the 88+ style. Better call AGR before you waste a trip though.
Lance, your old shaft was just the old GM style. Anything from mid 70's on up will be like the AGR. :)
JeepinIan 02-21-2002, 05:12 PM That looks like the one from my CJ7. It is a press on fit.

Lance 02-21-2002, 06:14 PM yep the :rainbow: thing is that I will have to buy the whole pump assy. at pick n pull. Oh well I guess I will have a spare.
Paul Gagnon 02-21-2002, 06:16 PM This is the pulley puller set that I have. It's got everything you need for PS pump and alt pulleys and it's cheap. Comes in a handy red carrying case too. :D

71RCKCRZR RYAN 02-21-2002, 06:26 PM I CAME ACCROSS THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I WAS PUTTING MY PULLY ON TOO.....
I HAD MY BUDDY CHUCK THE PULLY UP ON A LATHE AND MADE IT PRESS FIT......PUT A FEW TACH WELDS ON IT THEN THREW A BOLT ON IT.......
ITS WORKING SO FAR
ok25ton 02-21-2002, 09:22 PM I went to chevrolet and asked for a pully for like a 82 1 ton 454
It was a double pully and worked perfect
For the "Special Tool" Get about a 3" Bolt that fits W/ washer & a nut threaded all the way up stick the bolt head in the vise and wrench the nut up the bolt untill on!!!
:rasta: :rasta:
ok25ton 02-21-2002, 09:23 PM oh yeah the pully was only like $6 :rasta:
Dennis 02-21-2002, 09:26 PM I found out the hard way with a barrowed puller/installer. Put the pulley on last, after everything is bolted down tight. Mine was not lined up properly. Had to re barrow the tool. Putting it on last helps to insure good alignment.

That's fine for putting the pulley on(some reman press fits come with a bolt and a washer specifically for this) but it doesn't help when you need to remove it.

Borrow a pulley puller. If I were closer you could use mine. Yank it off then just take the pulley :)
