I'm thinking about going hydroboost in my flatty. Have any of you adapted hydroboost to your non-Chevy rigs? Do I need to use a Chevy column or can put the booster on a different column? I've got a Mustang column that I'd like to use. Do you think I can make it work?

It shouldn't be a big deal to use the Mustang column. You just have to adapt the u-joint for the 'Stang column to the GM box.

so are you saying that the hydroboost is part of the steering box?

Are you sure you need hydroboost in a flatty? I have 4 wheel manual discs, and don't want or need any power boost.

the reason that I was thinking about it is because I will be running an automatic and probably with some sort of underdrive(not sure which yet) so I want to be sure that I can stop when I am in creepy crawly gear.

I have an automatic, and I still don't feel it is an issue.
But, I just reread your question and I'm wondering what part you need to adapt to the column? Hydroboost doesn't really have anything to do with the column does it? Isn't it connected inline with the PS pump lines? Steering box and steering column shouldn't have anything to do with it...

I thought that the hydroboost unit was attached to the bottom of the column with the shaft going through the centre. Am I confused?

The only connection the Hydroboost has to the steering system it through the hydraulic linesfor the fluid.. that is the system i am looking at using with my 48 since it is so compact compared to a vacuum booster..
Paul .... hydroboost is brakes.... think of a hydraulic cylinder ( powered by your p/s pump that replaces the vacuum booster on your firewall) ...
that's it .... it's simple... ( the p/s pump has another return line to the resevoir though)
I do not think Ford ever used hydroboost on the SC motor ( kidding :p ) you may have to swap in a chev pump

Yeah I know that Chris but from looking under my hood on the Chevy the hydroboost sits between the steering box and the column. Maybe I need to have a closer look at it because I'm all confused now.
