OK, raz me all you want about this, but I would like to get an answer.
I know that I can shave the front hubs to 5 x 5.5, but is ther any reason why I can't shave the rear hubs down?

should be possible, I've heard of it being done, just find aftermarket wheels with the biggest possible center hole so you can keep shaving to a minimum.

I think the only way to try this is to use 14-bolt ff hubs. their
OD begins at 4.25" Those 5 on 5.5 wheels have slightly* less
than a 4" bore... (It's been awhile since actually measuring any
of this crap so these are from memory)
definetly dana 60 will not work. ford sterling hubs will not work.
I have some dana 60 HD hubs that are very similar to the 14-bolt
hubs. (difference between 14-bolt hub and reg dana 60 hub is
that the 14-bolt hub outer bearing must be installed from the
inside of the hub. the reg dana 60 hub outer bearing is installed
from the outer-side...... the machining of the hubs is vastly
different..........
--Sherpa PS: If this is possible with the 14-bolt hubs, how come
you never see any on trucks already? hmmm.....
yeah it's been done on a 14b. I've seen it, and some dude here did this and posted some pics. Do a search on turning down the hub. As far as I know Sherpa rig is right, there is no way to do this with a 60. Not enough material can be removed or a wheel center (on a 5 or 6 lug) wheel big enough. If anybody knows a way to achieve this, please do tell. I think you're pretty much restricted to changing your outers if you want to lose the 8 lug.
