For all of you who have done the 5 on 5.5 front hub thing on your dana 60's, how did you mount your front calipers? Dynatrac won't sell just the bracket, you have to buy the whole damn axle. I have a HP ford 60 but I can and probably will change to Chevy/Dodge style knuckles, hubs, spindles so I can run the 35 spline stubs. I am also considering this so that I have the little cutout in the knuckle for caliper clearance. I'm going to use a 'cheap' 1/2 ton Chevy caliper, and yes I've seen the article on BC4x4 and I don't want expensive calipers. Any ideas or experiences? Thanks.

I have friend who had the dynatrac set-up..The brake caliper bracket was nothing more than a piece of 3/8 straight plate that bolted to the spindle and used 1/2 ton chevy calipers. I believe dynarape typically uses a ford 60 rotor and bearing hub.If I remember correctly the bearing hub is turned down, the holes welded up and redrilled to the 5 on 5 1/2 pattern. He had his set-up on a kingpin dodge 60 front..So in his case he may have had to switch spindles as well since the ford spindle is shorter than the chevy/dodge;but, not for sure..You may have to just play with it and see what fits and doesn't..Hope this helps. :D

Yeah, I have had the ford hubs turned down and drilled, but they are shorter than the chevy spindles so I don't know if I'm going to use them now, since I want the 35 spline stubs.

a wile back (LIKE 2 YEARS AGO))
Lance said he was going to post a tec
article soon on doing this convershion
so you might ask him how much longer
untell it is i done.
any way ther is a person in bremerton wash
who does this convershion.
I have seen the results and it is a quality
job.
I do remember that he uses stock dana 44
hubs and roters. I belive that he has the hubs broached to accept the dana 60 stub.  :)

Yes, I know Wagoners can do it, but they get $1500 for the kit, and that's more than I'm going to spend. I'm asking about people who have fabbed brackets themselves. I'm using F-150 rotors that have been "opened" up a little and the hubs I have machined down and drilled. Now, I need to fab a bracket to mount the calipers.

1. Dynatrac uses custom cast hubs for 5 or 6 lug, not turned down, filled or drilled. New, custom.
2. As far as a caliper bracket, just make a flat one from 3/8' flat plate to match the spindle bolt pattern and hold the caliper of your choice. Transfer the bolt pattern from the existing 60 caliper bracket, then make the two ears (for chevy calipers) to hold the caliper and then trill and tap the caliper retaining bolt holes.

if you were to use toyota disks
then you could get 4 piston calipers and
sloted disks from a 4runner.
ps same bolt patern as chevy.
