Turn the motor over in the direction of rotation watching #1. When the exhuast valve starts to lift, adjust the intake by spinning the pushrod with your fingers until you feel tighten slightly. This is zero lash and give it 1/2 turn more for hyd lifters. Continue to turn motor over adjusting each one by following the firing order.
Then watch the intake valve cycle. When it's almost all the way back down. Adjust the exhuast in the same fashion.
All this is acomplished by removing all the plugs first.

I'm sure there's other methods, but I got good at this by using mechanical cammed motors.

With the engine in number 1 firing position adjust
Exhaust 1,3,4,8
Intake 1,2,5,7
Crank engine over once then adjust
Exhaust 2,5,6,7
Intake 3,4,6,8

To adjust loosen rocker nut then tighten until push rod just starts to get tight then turn the nut 1/2 turn to center the lifter plunger.
YOU CAN DO IT.
