: Overheating

Maybe I am missing something here.

My 85 K5 runs great and never gets above 190 degrees when I am driving/wheeling. The problem is that when I shut it off it jumps upwards of 250 degrees, causing vapor lock, etc. What am I missing here? Good coolant level, new thermostat, no leaks (that I see), good water pump. Any thoughts? Would an electric fan help (leave it on after shutdown)? If it would, which would be better, push or pull?

ide put a fan on it use a temp sensor to kill the fan when its at a normal temp

weird you have that problem how hot of a day does this happen on?

i think a pusher is the way to go but im not 100% on it

It only seems to do it when the outside temp is over 60 or so. It has not been real hot here yet this spring (hasn't been over 80 yet). Doesn't seem to make a difference if I am running 65 down the road or in 4LO off road.

do a coolant setting check. it shouldn't read below -30. if so then you have to much anti freeze, and its not absorbing the heat properly.
if you can find a sight glass style checker they are VERY accurate.
