Got a 9" to replace the D35c:barf: a while back and ordered up a set of 5.13's and a Detroit locker. Today we installed the gears and locker and I am almost ready to put it in the jeep. I just need to find a D44 fornt end out of a 78-79 Ford and I would be good. Any one know where I can find one at a good price?

Oh yeah, stay away from F150's if you're getting 78-79. Last week, there was a good 44 front topic (TOTW). Look for it.

Oh, a Junkyard I shoulda thought of that. I said a good price. :flipoff2: Around here they go for around $600 unless you got the hookup.

$600! Man you guys gotta get up into snow country, we trip over those things up here...dime a dozen... Okay not quite that good, but with a little searching I could probably find you one, but like was said above there really ain't a perfect year. Pre-77 had drum brakes, 78-79 1/2 tons had the cast on radius arm mounts. 3/4 tons are great and come with leaf spring mounts, but are 8 lug, and a lot rarer, the best would be the 1/2 ton extended cab with leaf springs, and 5 on 5 1/2", but those are real rare. I payed $125 for one from a 78 bronco without a ring and pinion, I'm just going to live with its imperfections, plus for the price a got a perfect (but 3.55 geared) 9" included too.
Anyway, I'd look around here for you, but the money you'd save would probably get eaten up in shipping... btw you didn't happen to pull 4.11 out of that 9" when you replaced the gears did you, if so maybe we'd be able to do some bartering...
