Ive read the article about the 15" rim on the 60 but i got a few questions. What kind of backspacing should i be getting? Will a wheel spacer work? Also anyone know of some nice 15X12 aluminum wheels?

Im guessing here, but I think you will have more clearance with a steel wheel, cause they're not as thick.

get at least 2.75" backspacing. 2.5" is even better.

I run steel 15x10 's on my Dana 60 front axle. I have used 3.5" backspacing which require some caliper grinding. I am now using 5" backspacing wheels that required alot more grinding. I am sure an aluminum wheel would require even more grinding due to it's increased thickness.

Good luck finding an 8 lug 15 inch aluminum wheel. I don't think anyone makes them any more. Please post up if I am incorrect.

As already mentioned, good luck trying to find any 15" 8-lug aluminums. The only ones I have ever seen were special order Welds years ago and I've since heard they were no longer available. The problem is that the much thicker aluminum rim makes it much harder to fit than a steel version.

For backspacing on a 15" steel wheel, you can usually make anything up to around 4.25" work with some grinding..........less backspacking = less grinding. Somewhere around 2.5-2.75" of BS you usually don't have to grind any.

You can buy them from some steel wheelmakers. There used to be a place in portland OR that I bought some from. They were only about 50 bucks each. Can't remember the name of the company though.

You just need to get a couple of grinder discs and a few beers and spend some quality time with your calipers.

forget the aluminum. its inferior for wheeling imo. it will crack long before steel will. and dont even try to use weight savings as a reason, unsprung weight is your friend on the rocks. theres the fact that steel is cheaper. people also try to use the "aluminum wheels are straighter and more true," does it matter when your tires are as out of balance as they are? NO!

and i personally wouldnt try to run more than 3.5" of backspacing on a 60 with steel wheels. and if you were to find a 15" 8 lug aluminum wheel, which i doubt you will, you wouldnt be able to fit it on the 60 brakes. not without downgrading to smaller brakes. but you are on the right track with the 15" thing, best size out there imo.
