The UROC Pro season has begun. With the anticipation comes the satisfaction of knowing we are finally here at the brink of rubber hitting man made rocks. This first event starts at 11:00 AM tomorrow, Utah time. We had a look at some of the vehicles that tech'd today.

Just talk to someone in SLC. Said DSI is broke already. Lost the outboard motor and can't find his passenger side oar. Can only make left hand turns.....

I'm confused Tony K, if he lost the passenger side oar it would only turn starboard not to the port side.

You have to adjust for the currents :)

Considering how all the other comps have gone so far this year, I guess God's finally weighing in and it turns out he's a greenie :shaking:

This is just a taste of what a Northwest rockcrawling series would be like. :D

On the coverage, the links to the score sheets are bad.

Ok it is day 2. Yesterday was a challenge for the coverage. We will try to get it better today. Links to the scores are fixed now too and the image gallery had the quality of the images increased. We will see you there in a little bit.

I will try to get final understanding of which oar Dave lost. Now I am confused because I thought he was using a paddle wheel.

We are off to get cold and wet.

Did they run the same courses as SC III or did they create new courses?

So whats the deal with Cambell putting air in his tire in the middle of course 8, and thats the only reason why he finished the course, and got the win??? What happened to the 10 point penilty for using a tool???
Did he get the penilty, and I just didn't hear about it?

If so, it sounds like a bad call to me........ :shaking:
Hopefully someone can clear this up....

the rule on tools is not about using a tool on your rig. An Example: It was intended to keep a competitior from using a highlift jack to bridge a gap and make it easier to drive across. Make sense?

I'm aware of the rule Joel, but it doesn't state specifics... An air tank is a tool as much as a wrench, or a hi-lift jack;)

I'm pretty sure they made the 10 pt penalty stick- re-reading the rules on the way home (Whiteout in Denver and all), it seems to be the correct call. Thing is, he did so well, he still won!

Congrats to the winners- that place is brutal enough dry, add the slop and it get's real interesting.

I think a nod goes to Torbett too for peggin the backside of the matterhorn with a locked up torque converter AND for so eloquently finishing the last courses in 3 wheel drive.

I read the rules and they don't state that using hand tools is illegal. UROC made the right call not charging for a tool. It would have made a difference if they charged a 10 point penalty, and it was a rollercoaster for our team as we thought we won and then found out the scores that were posted incorrectly. Bridging a gap with a tool is a 10 point penalty but using tools to fix your car in not penalized. Pro-Rock was the other way and that has caused some confusion. It was smart that Shannon did what he did and knew the rules. He should also get some extra credit for making that course without ARB's as he blew an air line from the flat! Congrats to Shannon and all the competitors for running in such tough conditions. See you in AZ!

I think Mrs. King Full Pull would be a better judge than BigLar... :grinpimp: cuz he can be easily distracted  and if you step out of line Mrs. King Full Pull will take immediate disciplinary action. Here in this photo she's observe accessing a 20 point penalty for hitting two cones.

It does state specifics. It defines tools as levers, mechanical advantage for the spotter, bridge building, etc.

It specifically does not mention hand tools, air compressors, etc.

Question - this is the man-made course, correct? Thought I saw a lot of mud on the vehicles. Was that just residual from moving around the grounds, or did UROC deliberately throw some dirt on top of the rocks?

Mud was from the dirt the course is built on. One big muddy soupy mess.

Congrats to UROC for pulling the event off in such bad weather.

Congrats on the win and a BIG THANKS to Shannon. We had a bad fitting in a valve on our ARB and also broke a valve stem on one of our Fox Shox. Shannon had both parts and saved our bacon twice. That guy is the best.

Mother nature gave us a slop fest all around and at the base of the obstacles, some spots lower/deeper than others- all non intentional- made things interesting:)

How were the courses compared to Supercrawl? Did the dirt keep injuries down, or were there just less rolls since everyone was used to the site now?

Good question. I bet it was a little of both. The mud reduced traction by a lot and softened up some of ground (not all areas).

I would think there would be more injuries with reduced traction and lots of throttle but then again maybe there was not enough traction to get in those precarious situations.

I think it was a little of both.

Just read through all the coverage and pictures. Once again, awesome coverage and a lot of work. Great job Sam!
