Hey my brother just bought an 84 fj60 and I'm requesting info anyone could give me about the best kind of lift to purchase for his truck. Also could anyone let me know some pros and cons about fj60's? Are they "technically" versatile? Dependable? A worthwhile investment for an avid wheeler? Also should you regear for 33"s. Thanks.

There are a ton of options for the FJ60 lift, Jtoutfitters.com the prices might help you narrow your selection down a bit.

They are as dependable as they come, but a little long & heavy for hardcore wheeling.

You can fit BFG 33X10.50 without modification BUT the stock 3.71 gears will make long uphill grades slow and painful.

What kind of wheeling? FJ60's are sturdy beasts, they share a lot of mechanics with FJ40's, in some cases with improvements, and although the size can be ungainly, with the right modifications, they can handle a lot of abuse. There are guys here with chopped-up 60's doing hard-core trails.

For suspension, it depends on what kind of wheeling you do and what kind of budget you have. You can from a 2" lift to a spring-over conversion with several different lift kits in between.

As for 33's, I would recommend regearing to at least 4.11's, stock is 3.70.
