: are ya gonna get it done in time to wheel this summer.???
Dan-H 02-22-2002, 10:03 AM The weather is starting to get nice...
whazzzup with the major winter buildups?
I've seen glimpses of OrbitCat's, C-basset's and Kodak's junk in various stages of disassembly. Haven't heard much from SweetCJ7 lately. I'm sure there are others. Who else started something major over the winter and doesn't have it done yet?
are they gonna see the trail this summer, or is it becoming the buildup of a lifetime? :flipoff2:
Pics? Progress reports? or is it a big secret;)
- Dan
Man, I hope so.
I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 60 front end. Bearings, brakes, and kingpins.
Then I get to do the rear end - same deal, less the kingpins.
Then the SOA.
Been about 3 years in the doing. Almost forgot what it was like to wheel.
Keith Strong 02-22-2002, 10:11 AM Hell Yeah.....I am so ready for this year it isnt even funny. Gonna have Dean do my Ram in the next couple weeks, build a wrap bar, get out the sawzall and hit the trail. Last 2 years were my building years, I wanna go wheelin!!!!!!!! Just need a trailer now ;)
chadl 02-22-2002, 10:16 AM major? Major to me, probably an evening project for some on this board, but my 9" rear 44 front swap with SOA is approaching (slowly) the half way point, course here in Indiana we got more winter to work during...and when ever I get sick of working on it, I just take the Liberty (DD) out on a trail ride, and then I come back and attack that project like rosie o'donnell going after a new box of ho-ho's
chad
RokHeep 02-22-2002, 10:24 AM Mine is down to the frame now for a complete rebuild; 99 5.7L Vortec V8, Ford T-18, KluneV, Atlas II, 60's F&R, 42's, etc.... It'll be ready in time for spring. :flipoff2:  :smokin:
Bring on the Kitchen! :grinpimp:
WheelingPiazza 02-22-2002, 10:34 AM Build up? hahaha
Lets see it all started last june when I broke the rear axle housing..
That started the SOA on wrangler spring with 60 inch dana 44s front and rear.
Well that lead into disc brakes front and rear, High steer, 36 sxs with bead locks
Almost done.. I should be in good shape for the summer wheeling..
I am sick of being a passenger...
XtremeGod 02-22-2002, 10:39 AM I have been working on my current CJ-7 since last Sept. Will it be ready this summer? No, but thats ok, I still have my XJ to play in.
M/C MAN 02-22-2002, 10:52 AM I know one thing, if we don't start fighting it won't be anywhere in the El Dorado area:mad3: You know the Rubicon
FULLSIZE 02-22-2002, 11:05 AM 44044s, 52" GM rears, clocked 300 and some more wheelbase, and hell yes i'm ready!:flipoff2:
Thank god I have one running rig while I work on this other :D Or I wouldnt be done by this summer by a long stretch.. well.. maybe...
Eric Ruhl 02-22-2002, 11:08 AM Well here's most of my tasks from the past year (77' CJ-7) :
YJ frame swap
Axles (Waggy front, Scout II rear, 4.56's and detroits)
Custom hi-steer
Rear discs
Springs (BDS)
Custom shackle reversal
Custom tranny mount/skid plate
Steering Column, shaft, box
Hydro assist
Radiator
All wiring (including fusebox)
454 TBI swap (including fuel pump and lines)
Edelbrock cam, timing chain, and intake
Oil pump rebuild (plus high pressure spring)
HEI distributor swap
GM alternator swap
Herculiner (tub & engine bay)
Rocker guards (ditched the nerfs)
Tranny (T98) cluster gear & rebuild
Custom rear crossmember
Shock towers (Ford front, custom rear)
D20 twin stick conversion
Power steering fluid cooler
A couple of those won't be finished for the "maiden voyage" but everything on that list should be finished in the next couple of months (finally). Had the engine running for the first time in a year just last weekend :D but the distributor gear ate the cam gear so that put an end to that for now  :( Hoping to fire it up again March 1st weekend. So yeah, I should be out of the garage this summer :D In fact, planning to go to Moab with it the week after EJS.
Just trying to get mine ready for DTC at the end of Aug, until them I will be winch bitch:flipoff2:
I tore down my Willys, chopped the rotten flor out of the tub, extended it 10" now I am doing the body work, i.e. BONDO:D
Hopefully get into my brothers shop to build the front framerails out of 4x2x.188 tubing, on Sat.
Hopefully the guy has pulled the 4.3 I am buying, sometime this weekend.
Just got the tubes out of the RC 44, gotta snap up a chev donar 44, and misc parts.
I think a guy in the club as a Scout D44 rear, that I might have to snap up
Soooooo. I still need Tires, tranny, t-case, lockers and gears, a 8724 if I find a good deal. I think I have most of the bugs worked out on the little crap, and maybe found a local guy to bend some DOM for skull protection.
Plus I have to help out on a club members YJ..cage, winch, waggy axles, SOA, etc.... Gonna be a busy summer
The tub a few days ago (looks like hell)
Chrisjeep7 02-22-2002, 12:07 PM HMMMMM....well i got the narrowed RC Dana 44 in and the narrowed Dana 60 in with waggy springs high steer and 4 wheel disks with new MC and BB. Full cage, armor all round and new 36" tsl's with the jsut broke in AMC 360/ TF 727 combo i am sooo FAWKING READY i am dreaming about wheeling! this is what it looked like 3 months ago....

Looks like you have a little work left to do;) If you want scout axles, I can dig up the name of the guy in New Brighton who has some. I bought one rear from him for $50 and he had a couple more. I've got a scout 44 rear housing with one flange removed but no shafts for it. and a postal 44 (53-54" wms) sitting around.
Mines done - again. Shiny scout 44 front and 1.5" tierods. Just need to get the new tires and finish the 60 rear

Monkeyboy 02-22-2002, 01:26 PM I started my junk two years ago and I hope to finish it this year.
hopefully by the end of summer.
I decided just rtecently to go from sprung over with XJ springs to 1/4 eliptical in the rear.
I was gonna have to make an anti wrap bar any way so why not go 3-4 link :D
Got the gears detroit and spool I just need to get the mosers made for the rear and I need to get the gears setup.
The I need to run the fuel and brake lines get a clutch radiator and drive lines and I'll be running I hope :D
Medic 02-22-2002, 03:11 PM Started the tear down for the YJ tub swap back in October. Since then, the 258 and T-5 have been trashed in favor of a '96 4.0L and AX-15 (what the hell, all the body work was off, might as well). Stripped and refinished the frame with POR-15, custom fuel pump, lines etc.. for the 4.0, clocked D300, Centech wiring harness, blah, blah, blah. The YJ tub went on for the first time 2 days ago, it's starting to look like a Jeep again. Mines should be done by late May. I can't wait, I lay in bed at night thinking about the day I get to start and wheel my Jeep again.
aaronlosey 02-22-2002, 03:51 PM my project is so far behind it hasn't even started. i keep meaning to put the 1 ton axles under it, but my locked stock ones just keep going without breaking. ( well thats not true, i normally have to fix them to get back from where ever they break, so by the time i get it home, its fine again ) when i can actually afford the 39.5s on some beadlocks, i will bother putting in the new drivetrain.
Trango 02-22-2002, 05:46 PM You mean there's actually an END to the buildup? :)
Bob (still waiting on the endmill for the axle tube plug welds)

I would like to put the 4.3 in. Paint the whole Jeep and frame. Make some tube front fenders and put on some shocks.
The only thing will get done is the shocks for sure and the other things??? Motor might happen but the paint aint going to happen.
kwrangln 02-22-2002, 07:42 PM Lets see, I have a stack of parts here and its growing steadily.
OX locker for the rear
the MT/R's showed up a couple days ago
Have another set of YJ springs to put together
New windshield frame and windshield sitting in the shop
New skid plate
Front hoop for the cage should be here by the end of the week.
I'm taking a week off of work next month just to work on the jeep.
Install all the parts I already have.
Replace water pump and battery.
Cut and turn front end.
Raise rear pinion.
New drive shafts.
High steer front?
OX for the front?
I think it's gonna be a long week.
:rasta:
orbitcat 02-22-2002, 08:03 PM God, I hope so ! I have been working on it except for the last two weekends. I should be getting my D60 knuckles on Monday. I hope to have the new axles done in 4 to 5 weeks. I still have a miriad of small crap to do.
Here are a couple of ramp pics from when I was testing out the suspension for shock clearance. It looks like I can fit the 14" dual rate coilovers on the front. I can fit 12" shocks on the back, but I'm going to use the stock RE springs since I don't want to go through the tub. I think it flexes plenty.
orbitcat 02-22-2002, 08:05 PM See, I don't like how the springs pop out. I could make a retainer, but coilovers are bad ass.
BTW, Don't make fun of my fold up garage special ramp.:flipoff2:
CJ5-Man 02-22-2002, 08:55 PM I hope its done by summer, been working on it since August. What started out as a spring over is turning in to an entire drivetrain swap. Just picked up some ford hubs and flat top knuckles for my waggy 44. Scout 44 is going in the rear, t18, TBI on my 360, and top it all off with some OD green spray paint.
Brian1 02-22-2002, 09:42 PM I am no where near done on my project. I am still doing frame mods and fabing my suspension right now. I wanted it to be done by this summer but i think it is going to take longer. Here is where I am now (http://members.home.net/brian4x4/homemade_stuff/Jan2102.JPG)
emsoffroad 02-23-2002, 12:11 AM Well it started as replace the 18 tc for another one, broke it in half. Then my friend sold me a set of sides for $100. So I said to my self might as well install them since mine are getting real bad. Then the tub came off, SR happened, frame sandblasted, painted, EFI 302 went in, EFI 302 taken out, 351w built went back in, auto pedals went in(got sick of the Mustang pedels, and that extra pedal that was for the clutch), fixed holes in firewall, got a great deal on hardtop, now here it is.
When I get back. I have to finish the HP44 and cut down the 60-2. Then make the hydro assit, make a cage, paint it, find a fender(ditching the one piece), and get some tires that fit(33s look small but rub the hell out of it). All in all I should be done for the summer, wait I'm sure I will get involved with some one elses project(last time it was a SAS on an S-10) I think I will really have it done for next year.

I dig the ramp! Its still usefull for testing purposes, but you don't have to leave it out for everyone to laugh at :D

Idaho XJ 02-23-2002, 06:02 PM Gears, lockers, and all of the electrical crap that needs to be taken off of my batt. and put on the aux. fuse panel...
:smokin: :rasta:
Supergper 02-23-2002, 07:31 PM I dont think so...although within the next week or so I hope to have it rolling:D:D:D
I plan on having it ready by then end of summer but who knows:D:D:D
My plans by the end of summer are 60s f&r, 38.5 SXs, beadlocks, 4.3L, TH350, NP205 Tcase(atlas if $$$permitting), waggy springs, adn a bunch of other custom stuff(bumpers, crossmembers, skid plates,...yadda yadda yadda):D
By the end of the month(March I guess:D) I will have the springs axles and tires:D and starting on the drivetrain
desertCJ 02-23-2002, 11:30 PM Summer wheelin? Damn I better be!Since October narrowed cherokee 44,installed detroit and 4.88's SOA in front. Dana 60 rear from Currie..currently doin 4-link rear with 1/4 ellptic springs. Also sittin on new 36" tsl's. I just came in from the shop with welders sunburn!OOPS, haha. I can't fawkin wait.I'm hopin to go to High Desert Roundup in May so I better get back in the shop.Later:smokin:
Slagburn 02-24-2002, 12:58 AM Not ready yet, but working my ass off to get it there. My target is a debut at EJS, only 5 weeks away!
Started in January sometime and have the 4-link w/ 14bolt basically done. The front 3-link 60's gonna start soon but that should be way easier than the rear. Right now I'm doing bodywork, extending the floor and shortening the fender boxes for legroom (CJ-5) since the rear axle's shoved back 8 inches. Lucky for me, the drivetrain got dealt with last summer during the frame swap. I do have a 401 to drop in place of the 304 but that can wait.
Otherwise just the usual odds and ends BS, weld the rear diff, setup the ring and pinions when they get here, shock mounting, figure springs for the front, finish the rear discs and so on.
Charly 02-24-2002, 05:14 AM Well, no garage and snow makes it so I have to wait until warm weather to install anything, but in the meantime...
..finish rebuilding the NV4500 (already did the EB D20)
...decide on extent of rebuild for the 350 TBI (it's mostly torn down)
...I just finished repairing the 8274 (complete tear down, pinion shaft replacement, and OD paint)
I've been buying/hoarding parts like a madman...adapter, bellhousing, clutch, motor mounts, computer...... I still need to get a harness, clutch slave, Flowmaster 40 and decide on a radiator.
I hope to have this new drivetrain in by the end of May for EMWF (Eastern Maine Wheel Fest).
Then, I'm doing the 14 Bolt w/Detroit and discs, the ram assist and hydroboost.
So I'll have a 231 w/JB SYE and an AX5 (great condition, synchros are fine) for sale soon.
Po' riggity 02-24-2002, 09:28 AM Well... Its "ready" to wheel now.... but... Here is what I want accomplished by may:
8.8 in SOA, D30 SOA'd, TJ shafts and some 5-760's for the front 30, to ditch the two piece shafts, and 260 joints.
Full cage in, cj tailgate on.
Thats about all.

willymutt 02-24-2002, 10:50 AM Hey Lame,
How did the body addition go? Looks like it worked out pretty good. Did you just add to the flat spot in the body side? Keep sending pics, I want to see how it progresses.

It went really easy. The floor was shot, so I tipped it up on it's side, chopped the floor out. Then I proped it back up, chopped the rockers, then made some inserts out of 18ga, welded 'em in (sorta suprised, I was with in 1/16th tolerance from side to side:) ) I made a floor subframe/body mounts out of 1x2 tube, and welded in some 18ga for the floor. The tanny hump is gonna wait until I have the body on the tub, so I can see how high it has to be. I have about 80% of the tub sanded down to bare metal. I should be squirting it in April.
I'll keep ya updated:D
Jakesteramalamajama 02-25-2002, 06:50 AM Well, the open Jeep surgery in my shop just started this weekend... I've got all the accessories, intake/exhaust, as well as the radiator and attendant plumbing torn off of that greasy old 258/peugeot turd-O-rama and I've ordered the sleek, new Ramjet 350/NV4500 to replace it... I figure if the weather ever shapes up, (it was 10 degrees up here this morning) I should have the swap done within a month or so...No problem. :D
