how does a full spool for the 8.8 work since the axle is c-clip? do you have to get c-clip eliminators?

any help would be appreciated....thanks

Yup, you need C-clip eliminators to spool an 8.8 or 7.5. Search for mustang sites for lots of info on 8.8 and/or 7.5 axles...those guys probably mess with them more than wheelers.

I ran into a problem with this a couple of years ago....here's what happened..

I was planning on running a spool in my 8.8, so I called Strange directly to order some 31 spline axles, and a c-clip eliminator kit. I knew they would have it, cause I used to have a late model mustang, and thats what everybody ran.....but.... Strange told me that the kit for the Mustang wouldn't work for the truck 8.8 because of a difference in the tube diameter or something, and they didn't make a kit for the trucks:mad: :( :( ....

Soooo, I just went and bought a locker instead....maybe they are making it now, or someone else, I'm not sure, but check before you order one for a Mustang....

Weld the thing! :D Easiest and cheapest. Just make sure you don't weld the crosshaft or the axle buttons, in case you need to remove a shaft later.

first off welcome newbie:flipoff2: :flipoff2: .

on another note, the reason we dont want to weld it is because the carrie is naturally weak. therefore there is a need for a replacement carrier. in stating this my buddy does not really want to spend a lot of money on it since it is just gonna be a trail rig

Exactly. Weld it and get a HD diff cover fer added strength

lemme say this again.

THE CARRIER IS A WEAK POINT AND WILL BREAK. IF YOU WELD IT YOU STILL HAVE THE WEAK CARRIER.

no matter what kind of diff cover you buy it will NEVER make the carrier stronger

Hey if its just for wheeling why dont you just weld it up :flipoff2:

Not sure if you saw my post in the general section but seems like by the time you buy all this stuff you could have bought a detroit. Plus i thought I remebeer hearing the c clip kits are bad for wheeling cause of the loads put on them when wheeling is not what they were designed for. Just something to look into.

Yeah, I'm a newbe here!:D but I have been a wheeler for 8 or 9 years.

I haven't heard the 8.8's carrier is weak.
Welding still could strengthen it. Having all the guts welded up may help support the case more, depending on where its breaking.
