my buddy has a 1980 diesel scout (SUA) with 4 inch sk lift springs, the rears are flexing really good, but the front doesn't at all. Does anybody have any ideas to make it flex better? Has anybody ever removed a leaf or two out of the front? If so which ones? Thanks, Peace and chicken grease, tydes

Yes they flex, I'm able to invert my front springs  I have the IH 345 don't know how the weigth compares, but your right on about removing a leaf. BTW, the rears with a hard top and a load are way to soft, SJ sells an AAL for their springs.

Sweet. I've only seen two Scouts invert 4" lift springs. All others ride like rocks. Then again, the two I know of actually go wheeling on semi difficult stuff so the springs are well worn in.

Yes Skyjacker 4"s springs flex pretty good, i had a set on my 1979 Midas Traveler with 1 " lift shackles and 33's, they flexed enuff that the 33's would touch the top of the inner fenders.

My 4" front SJs don't flex.. untill I take off the stock anti-sway / anti-shimmy bar.
THEN they'll finally flex.
And yes, I *do* notice more sway when driving the twisting roads to the trail-head w/ the sway bar disconnected..
My "quick disconnect" is a 1/2" air-impact wrench and on-board air. :D

At that time, 196-4, close T19, 4.09s, 4" front SJs, 4" rear SJs w/ 2" extended shackles, 33x12.50s on 15x8s, and the front anti-sway bar disconnected.
Springs were.. about 6 months old.
Of course, even after I put the V8 up front and ran the springs for a few more years.. the front has NEVER flexed like the rear.
The rears flexed too well though. Like JDJanda said.. I tossed 'em in my parts pile and went SOA in the back to get some lift. I netted 2" of lift with the 4" SJs.. and that's being kind.
I measured "before" with my hard-top and XLCs, and "after" with the top off!

I've had Skyjacker 4" lift springs front and back.
I swear by them. They ride like you are on air
over the roughest of rocks.
I didn't know how well they were until I rode
in everyother brand of 4x4 without Skyjackers.
Comparatively speaking they would cause a kidney
operation and I don't know how those people
avoided this.
The only thing I don't like is when on off camber
spots they tend to Also flex/compress the wrong
way and only at those times would I like something
stiff like a rock...ie Rancho springs.
For driving to the trail I just put my 9012's on
the stiffest setting and the ScoutII corners on a
rail.
When I get there I just put them on the softest setting and its better than a Cadilliac.
I have a 392ci and on the trail weigh in at 6094 lbs. (Weighed at a CHP weigh station).
The rears do sag with the inside cab completely
full of gear/starter mtr(have 727)/spare everything axles to ujoints to one spring.
Being a ScoutII owner and the remote places I travel...you can't just ask another fourwheeler
for a spare part.
I own every make of 4x4 and all of them will
have Skyjacker springs. Softride...that is.
On the ScoutII they give me 23" total travel
front and rear. I have nothing special done
to the suspension except cantilevered shocks.
I chose the longest 9012's that Rancho makes.
Hope this helps.....just info.
