What the heck are Baumlocks? Chris V has them on Http://www.arizonarockcrawler.com

RB Enterprises, 480-839-5802, talk to Roger Baum. He charges $50 a wheel. Basically takes the wheel and builds up the inner and outer safety beads with a mix of epoxy and fiberglass. I believe it is a 3 or four part process with sanding and forming in between each step. What you end up with is a built up area where the tire bead seats. This makes it hard to seat but also very hard to get the bead off. Cheap and effective.

question: do those keep both sides of the bead on the wheel?

Nope, but they sure will keep one side on.. One Question for you Dave (if that is your real name:D ) How many times have you blown an inner bead?

Chris Have you blown a bead with these? and also, do tire places get pissed when they try to do things on your inner beadlock rims?

unlike many guys on this list....I use my real name "Dave", my parents used that, because they didn't know how to spell "Yuck"....LOL

I haven't blown a bead....and don't have bead locks....I carry a "cheata" with on-baord air....

but, last year in Moab, Fred from Canyon state kept popping the inner bead, he had bead locks like those you were talking about....

it only made good sense if your were going to use bead locks to get them for both sides at less money is all.....

sure the other ones look cool, but they do nothing to keep the inside on the rim.

I wasn't knocking the bead lock you meantioned....I was looking to see how they compared to the ones Roger makes....

Dave I think that I know you!

I ordered some engine stuff (Rebuild kit .40 over) from you a while back ..
The inner beadlocks sound like a the Ideal comprimise.. the only thing that I can think of that is a drawback is balancing, and if you should force one of those suckers off.. d*mn are you screwed.. So how about it , have you heard anyone forcing one of those bad boys off? If you havent, with all of the hardcore stuff that you all do, then by golly I'll send my off road rims off to get some epoxy/fiberglass resin..

:D :rasta: :rasta: :rasta: :rasta:

I guess I should edit my sig? and add in:
http://asianautopartsofaz.com/suzuki/index.html

yes, that's me.....LOL
Now that may cover is blown....hehehe

"balancing" is for sissy's......rip a lug off a Bogger and try to have it balanced.....or whack a rock and pop a weight off.....screw that!

I drove my Zuk to the Rubicon and back on Boggers from here (AZ) with no weights.....after about 30 miles they tame down, so you can let go of the wheel with one hand...LOL

I haven't heard of anyone having any trouble with the Baum Locks.....maybe Chris has....he knows Roger pretty well.

We sold a few rebuild kits up your way...nice area....went through there on our way to Trail Tough to pick up some core motors......

btw, our 800 phone number has been screwing up. So we called to find out what the deal was..and switched over to another Company....and got another line, with a second number....it should be up and going soon too... 1-877-123-SUMO

sure you will....that's what you said last time....haha

Chris's in-laws live just down the road from the Con.....he was with us the year before last.....when his Zuk was Red.

I don't see him sitting for very long in the passenger's seat of anyone's Zuk.....LOL

His Zuk is plenty tough, I would bet money on him.....going up against most Zuks

some of the stock car guys in my area run bead lockers on the out side and take a welder and run short beads ever few inches on the inside of the wheel to hold the inside bead on. they say it works great. Another thing that they do some times is to use catapiller gasket glue on the beads to hold them on. that stuff is strong glue. The glue looks like it would be a pain to have to clean up on the rim and bead.

When I ran my SX's I could only go down to 7psi and then they would still burp a lot of air out. If I took them to 5psi I would loose a bead eventually, happened twice. After I had Roger work his magic on my rims I had no more lost beads at 5psi. The new Claws I got have a much more flexible sidewall and 5 psi really bulges on them, again no air leaks at all in the last couple runs with the new tires. The main reason Roger came up with these is because once he put the bolt on style beadlock on the outside, he started loosing the inner bead regularly. Back a few weeks ago when I tested those Claws on the Lost World, one of the front tires went flat on the trail due to loosing the inner tire bead (the rims had beadlocks on them). Best thing is to get a bolt on beadlock for the outside and Roger's built up bead on the inside. I haven't had enough time to test these but with a flexible tire on a light rig you might not even need the bolt on style. And to answer your last question, I haven't been hassled by the tire places.

new form? has it changed from the last time we were there for SOR? Brian from Trail Tough did it several times..made it look easy....My Son did it at night, with a broken birf on the front and busted stock u-joint on the rear.....not all at once though..but he made it!

The Claws were/are on 15 x 10 rims. Not sure what Roger runs, was a wide 38's SX's or TSL's on 15 x 12's and then he had a nice set of paddle tires.

I did the Con, it was fun but I'd like some more hardcore stuff now, especially if I have to drive 1200 miles. Planning on Moab this year, a run up to Parker, AZ this fall and hopefully a trip to the Hammers. Next year I'd like to hit New Mexico and Colorado :D
