: I got a plan. Now how bout the doors...
Mr McGee 02-22-2002, 08:34 PM I'll keep it short and to the point. We have a 74 california fj-40 w/NO RUST and 2.5" lift. We also have a 78 fj-40 with LOTS of rust. We redoing the whole bed on the 78 and making it beefier. My point is that i'm thinking about changing my mind--using the 74 for my daily driver, and using the beefy 78 as a mud rig.
What i like about the 78 is the doors. They are much more aligned that those on our 74. Plus, it doesn't sound like a tin can when you shut them. I want them on my daily driver ('74)
My question--Are the doors interchangible? I know the strikers are different, but can they be traded?
And what do your guys think about our plan?
Okay, i'll shut up now. :smokin:
Live Wire 02-22-2002, 09:58 PM Yes, you can run the 78 doors on your 74. You will need to make a new mount for the 78 striker plate.
Mr McGee 02-23-2002, 10:45 AM thats not too difficult, is it?
So the deminsions are the same?
Live Wire 02-23-2002, 05:35 PM No, it isn't too hard. They will fit the body fine. You just have to fab a bracket to hold the striker to the body. Goodluck.
Mr McGee 02-23-2002, 06:48 PM WHat about swapping the front turn signals....i love the new style better and would hate to see them clipped off by some cocky tree....:skull:
rabid 02-25-2002, 09:46 AM Those big directionals are a waste of time. Too big, too fragile. i have seen a ton ripped off, and the ones that stay on shake and move around from busted mounts. The old can style ones are smaller and are still available, but if i did it again they would be the $15 aftermarket napa ones that are cheap to replace. Flat mount semi-type are cheap, too.
Jason M 02-25-2002, 10:14 AM You do not have to mount them in the stock location..
Mr McGee 02-25-2002, 05:32 PM It will be mostly a daily driver, im not worried bout them too much...but can they be swapped (from the 78 to the 74)?
BTW Jason, where did you get those beauties on your grille?:D :D

Jason M 02-25-2002, 07:10 PM Yep Rugburn has it right. These are the small ones though.
I put them on in highschool (about 12 years ago) and they have kinda been a staple on the cruiser ever since.
Tacky? yep :flipoff2:
Now you guys can't tell me that there is something that has been on your cruisers for so long that you just can't take it off even though it is kinda stupid.....
