Cutter 02-23-2002, 06:47 AM does the Heep on the top pic have a roll bar? And did the Waggy make it over that lip?
It’s great to see people from all over the world on this board, here’s a long distance jeep wave to you. That landscape looks like great jeep country, where is that? I thought it was mostly rock around Islamabad, maybe that was further south?
Hey, I’ve got something I’ve been wondering about but didn’t know who to ask. Have you seen many pictures of the “technicals” over there next door to you? The pictures I’ve seen look like fairly new trucks but they all have shitty tires and no lift, no winches, no armor. I know they can’t order just anything they want but it seems like a semi-built suspension and some basic longevity gear would be a tremendous advantage. You ever seen a good trail rig among the technicals?
ratputin 02-23-2002, 08:04 AM Sweeet! Long distance wave from NC!

Thanks for the nice comments.. There are a lot of mountains north of Islamabad.. The pictures are from Islamabad.. It is in one of the un-developed sectors of the city.. Nice place to test your rig..:D
What do you mean by "Technicals"?

Dan-H is right there.. Thats a No and a No for both Qs... The waggy ended up with a broken oil Pan, Broken radiator fan, leaking radiator and a roken brake-line from that place.. I will definately try it again once I have lifted the thing a little..

Four-wheel-drive vehicles mounted with guns, like the ones used in Afghanistan and Somalia. They're usually toyotas, for some reason, and in the photos I've seen they often look fairly new but have little scrawny tires and no lift. I can't find a real photo right now, but below is a model from a war-gaming website.

ehsankiani 02-24-2002, 02:36 AM Yes. I have seen these technicals around here.. They are simple stock 4x4s with a gun mounted at the back.. Most of them are Toyota pickups (as we get Japenese parts here in Pakistan only).. The army has some on Land Cruisers FJ40s and Land Rover Defenders.. I have even seen one on the back of a Suzuki Samuri..
Cutter 02-24-2002, 08:25 AM even with out a rollbar, this looks cool!

Ha ha! Turnabout is fair play! You got me there, glubglub. At least I helped encourage you to practice with the search button.
Actually, I don’t really go for all this newbie bashing as a general rule (even besides the fact that I’m gonna be a newbie here, knowledge-wise, for a long time no matter how many posts I have). I don’t take anything on BBs too seriously, but some people do and I wouldn’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings and cause them to stop participating. I’ve found I can learn something useful from almost everybody I’ve ever met.
But something told me, glubglub, that you probably don’t get your feelings hurt too easily. If I’m wrong, tell me, and I’ll try to be nicer to you ;)
And I did want to let ehsankiani know that lots of Americans don’t have any trouble distinguishing the handful of Osamas from the vast majority of sensible, level-headed Muslims in the world. (Not to mention the irrelevant fact that Pakistanis don’t look anything like Saudis.) Things like Jeeps can bring us together in the world, and Pakistan has some of the most awesome rock-climbing country in the world. Don’t you wish the world was the kind of place where a couple thousand Americans would feel safe traveling with their jeeps to the Himalayas for the World Rock-Climbing Championship Series?
ehsankiani 02-25-2002, 10:51 AM Thanks 92 XJ... I know that most americans do not feel that way.. About your idea about a world offroad championship in the Himalayas.. I thought about that a lot.. I hope one day our club can host you all here in Pakistan for such and event..
