: Dana 44 steering arm for hummer rims
HighCountryJeep 04-18-2005, 10:46 AM Sorry for the cross post, but hoping for more response here.......
Who is making/selling the steering arm that will clear a stock backspaced hummer rim? I know Mad Mac has the design that works, PM'ed him but no response yet. I need one arm (pass) pretty quickly. Thanks for the info.

jethrodeg 04-18-2005, 12:21 PM He is my post asking the same question.

WMS makes some but I really did not like the way the looked. Almost a flame cut look to them. I ended up using WFO tall arms and 1.25" wheel spacers. http://www.wfoconcepts.com/Steering/Dana44/SteeringTall.html The quality is top notch.
HighCountryJeep 04-18-2005, 12:33 PM saw that post (and about 500 others...) Really don't want to go the spacer route. I think Mad Mac's arms are going to be the way to go....if I can just get a hold of him :)
PAGING MAD MAC..........

geberhard 04-18-2005, 02:27 PM Jethor, what spacers did u get, and how much? Any pics how your setup came out? Did u go spacers all around (front and rear axle?)

Very good then. I don't feel neglected anymore :) Any idea how much he was getting for 1 arm?

geberhard 04-21-2005, 09:53 AM I am still waiting to hear back from him as well. If you hear back let me know.

geberhard 04-21-2005, 09:57 AM BTW I saw WMS setup, they look beefy, but kinda raw looking, so hopefully I can get MadMac's stuff quoted up and ordered. I am surprised this question gets asked back and forth and not a lot of info onw what worked from people who did it. Some used spacers, some rigged arms, etc. Maybe do a quick write-up or whatever when it is all said and done :)
I think from a tech perspective, it will be hard to get away without spacers even with the custom arms, probably 1.5 to 2 inches spacers. The main issue is the hub sticking out, and calipers. I am running dual piston calipers on my setup, which are pretty bulky. I saw a D60 with stock hummers before and wish I had checked more into how the guy did the setup. I am debating going with Dean's centers as well, I think MossMan's setup came out really clean,a nd have seen Dean's work on two of my buddies rigs, looking killer.
The question on the stock hummers is because they are plentifull and pretty inexpensive approach for double beadlocks, plus are street legal at the same time, which is an extra bonus.
So cost benefit (approximated ballpark on costs):
Option 1
Stock hummers H1 duble beads with runflats - $200-250
Custom High Steer arms - about $150-200
1.5" Spacers - about $200
Option 2
Stock H1's as above - $200-250
new centers - $40-50 a piece X 4 - $200
Regular High Steer Arms - $100-200
Plus whatever work to remove old centers and weld new ones in - $50 and up?
Option 3
Staz, or other beadlock wheels
$800 and up
Option 4
Inchworm DYI bealock screws $50 + whatever stock wheels you have
Not bashing criticizing or anything. Seems like an interesting option, but sutill waiting to see more people running this stuff. My worries are a cheap $50 solution that could work good, but a $50 risk to $1000 in tires, in the event the tire could spin and get cut up.
Hmm decisions decisions :)

HighCountryJeep 04-21-2005, 10:26 AM Gui,
I ran into the same situation. Read every post i could find, but nothing ever really conclusive. I did bolt up one rim to the driver side and everything cleared fine (probably 1/16" left) but it fit. The passenger side is the only holdup. Once its all said and done, I will do a brief writeup with as many pics as possible and feasable and hopefully it will answer future questions.
And I will let you know as soon as I hear from Mac.

geberhard 04-21-2005, 10:52 AM Mike, are you running crossover steering right now? What axle?
HighCountryJeep 04-21-2005, 11:02 AM Yes I am.
LP 44 from '76 F-250.
Have partsmike arm on there, 15x8 rims with 2.5" BS.

HighCountryJeep 04-28-2005, 01:17 PM Mac, you around? I need this arm pretty quickly. WMS can make one, but they only have 5/8" holes and mine are 9/16th. Don't have a 5/8" tap, or I would just tap the holes and move on.
beuller?

66CJdean 04-28-2005, 06:11 PM Your a little high there on some prices. If you send me your wheel it is $100 to $110 for me to recenter it and that covers the cost of the new center. If I provide the wheel it is $200+ for everything depending on options.

HighCountryJeep 04-29-2005, 06:53 AM Got a PM from Mad Mac. He is in Washington state for 7 more weeks, so no arms for at least 2 months :( I am going to try a rockstomper arm and see what happens. it always seems to be a suggestion, but nobody really knows if it works or not.

I would really be interested in seeing that. I'm slowly finishing the '78 HP44 in the front and am about to do steering next. I was thinking about using H2 wheels or custom backspaced H1s, but I already have some h1 wheels that I picked up for $40 a piece.
jethrodeg 04-29-2005, 11:09 PM I completed my HP44 with H1's about three weeks ago. I used WFO thick arms and ended up using 1.25" wheel spacers. With the arms I used the 1.25" was the min that I could get away with. The hub are flush with the outside edge of the wheel. I will post some pics over the weekend.
cherokee kidd 07-23-2005, 07:06 PM Top for this one. I am doing the same and need arms but don't want to run spacers. Any pics or insight
freeqgOd 07-24-2005, 06:45 AM I picked up some of those double ended arms off ebay for about $170 with spacers. I will let you know if they work I haven't had time to try them yet. They guy said they would.
