quick question for ya? whats the width on the front crossmember 's you build for the 1st gen trooper sas?
just looking for the measurment from centre of the spring mount ot the centre of teh spring mount? and with that measurment, is that with the shackle reversal going through the frame rail?

thanks a tonne.

reason i ask is a buddy who was just building a new rig just built one and no longer needs it. so if i can use it , then that will save me some time.

thanks
Jay

sorry..hadn't had time to reply to your PM yet :flipoff2: better to get the info in here anyway.

the crossmember width varies depending on the axle you are using.

i just build the cross member to the width of the spring perches on the axle.....so my front cross member ont he D60 outboards the springs from the frame......the Waggy D44's are narower so they are with in an inch or 2 of ligning up under the frame rails.

fwiw.........on my dodge 60...comes out to like 33" c-c

the waggy ones are like 30" or so..........this is with 2.5" wide springs of course.

hope that helps.

i will need to mount my winch so i think i will have to extend the frame rails and put the bumper out farther???

i see some that are just a small crosmember with spring mounts welded to the underside of the frame, and then i see the style matt builds......

is it o.k to just weld off the original bumper horns/rails? seels like the way matt does it. i kind of like the other way under the frame as it will be easier and quicker. whats the aadvantages and disadvantages?

thanks

Jay

This shows the first way I built Pinkstons crossmember and the second way I re-did it, the second way is very similar to Matt's RS. The first way is the easiest because it allows tons of clearance for the steering and eases in setting your caster angles, It looked like a total hack job in my opinion though, (I can say that, I built it :flipoff2: ) the second way looks 10 times better, allows tons more ground clearance, but was a serious pain to get the steering and caster correct. you need to have a pretty good amount of lift (lots of arch in the springs)to clear everything when extending the front bumper mounts for the front crossmember in order to clear everything
