: ford diesel in a disco??
androbus 04-18-2005, 10:55 PM i know it probably won't fit, but just have to ask!
my friend Joe was on his way over here from San Jose in his new to him f-250 and swerved to avoid hitting a car that pulled out in front of him...rolled and totaled teh ford....would anyone know if this is that much bigger than teh chebby 6.2? I know that fits, but..i know i would need to figure out an adapter, so it's notgonnahappen..just dreaming..
..if not I guess I need to help him sell off a '87 f-250 diesel engine and drivetrain..guessing it's a d-60?

Dougal 04-19-2005, 12:24 AM It *might* fit in the back. :flipoff2:
FrankenRover 04-19-2005, 12:49 AM No friggin' way dude. Your weight distribution would be like 70% front and 30% rear. You would never find rover springs to hold it up either.
Billster (lurking mostly now - real life issues being dealt with atm)
ps. why would you wanna powersmoke anyway?
evilfij 04-19-2005, 02:11 AM "You would never find rover springs to hold it up either."
I don't think so. 5in RTE rears in front . . . should be about stock hieght.
aloharover 04-19-2005, 07:13 AM so how much does an 87 ford diesel engine weigh?
Were they using power strokes back then?
evilfij 04-19-2005, 07:20 AM Not powerstroke.
Puffdragon 04-19-2005, 07:31 AM Anything is possible, but thats just stupid!!!
ps. why would you wanna powersmoke anyway?
Haven't you figured out that the Powerstroke is SUPERIOR to Cummins yet?
evilfij 04-19-2005, 07:36 AM He does not even have a cummins does he? I though he had a cheby.
FrankenRover 04-19-2005, 08:07 AM 2004.5 CTD 600......... :P

64rovr 04-19-2005, 01:09 PM '87 would be 7.3NA. I would rather have one of those than a 6.2NA. But its still a turd. And a huge one at that.
I wouldn't put a NA diesel in anything. The turboed diesel are soo superior in power, especially where there are hills. I have seen the non-turboed International Scout on a trail here in CO and that thing had less power than my Rover! Granted different engines, but nevertheless the turbo is the only way to get power out of the diesels IMHO. I would sell it and get yourself a 300TDI. Might be enough after salvaging the truck.

don' think so.....it was in good condition, but don't see it going for much when parted out...Joe is talking about giving it to a friend in exchange for him helping tow all teh rovers and vanagons here....ws the purpose of it's ourchase origionally
oh! and it's a 86...so it's a 6.9? n/a engine
any info on the rear? is it a d-60?
if we can find a ford with a blown engine i may have a solution...hmmm

madcowdungbeetle 04-19-2005, 06:12 PM off the top of my head... the rear is most likely a sterling 10.25 if it's a full-floater, though it could be a D60.... front is either a D60HP or a D44HD if it's 4wd. Good thing about the sterling or many that I've seen, is that they have ~5" passenger side offset to the pinion and 35 spline shafts, and the big ring gear. Only downside is disc conversions can be a pain, since you have to turn down the hub ~3/16" to fit Dodge D44 rotor over the front... thanks in part to those horrible studs that ford uses in some of their rear applications.
LR Max 04-19-2005, 08:40 PM A couple of years ago I saw a Disco pimpin a Chebby 6.2 diesel V8. I don't know how much the 6.2 weights but I can only assume its a heafty one.
Dougal 04-19-2005, 09:23 PM Is there enough room in a series 1 disco or RRC for a TD5?
PTSchram 04-20-2005, 04:43 AM Is there enough room in a series 1 disco or RRC for a TD5?
They both came with TDis, I'd assume one could fit the Td5.
