Just curious who's runnin propane on their small block. I really am liking the idea alot, but I just wanted to get more info on it. What are your likes/dislikes of it, and hows it treatin ya for fuel economy?

propane really is pretty sweet i think. its just gotten a bad rep. I have 1 ton delivery van running a 350 on propane backed by th400 and it runs like a top. I definitly think propane is better especially if you live in warm climate. with an octane of 104 you can bump the compression ratio a bit a see a fair bit more power out of it too. the only drawbacks that anyone who is interested in propane should know is that auto propane is not as available as gas or diesal at the local stations, and the vaporizor is prone to freezing. which is why you never pump a propane engine to get it started. it will freeze the vaporizor and then youll have to wait for it to de-thaw to try again, which sucks. but propane is much cheaper than gas or diesal, propane engine do not require fuel pumps or filters; just special fuel lines. and propane engines run and adjust like a carburated engine but have the throttle response and the ability to run at any angle like a fuel injected. if in doubt I'd do it

on the climate part of it, i am going to school in klamath falls, so its at or below freezing here from about just before thanksgiving to about valentines day. i dont think i would have a problem with it because it turns to a liquid at around -44*, but the colder temp is still a concern of mine. btw, have you ever checked the fuel economy at all. thats not a big concern, but it would be nice to know about what to expect.

about the fuel economy i wont post numbers cuz there guys on here i know would be flamin but i will say its very comparitive to gas. i dont think theres a large difference, but there are guys who say otherwise. how you drive it is gonna matter way more. I personaly drive my van with a lead foot cuz i like the way it hauls, so my figures would lower than the norm. propane is pretty much the same if the engine has a high (10:1 or more) enough compression ratio so ive heard.

ok, sounds good. thats what i was kind of expecting to get economy wise

edit: how do you check the amount that is in the tank? do you just have to crawl under it and check it every so often?

The tanks have a guage on them. You can also do what I did and get a replacement gauge that sends out the same ohm signal as a stock sending unit does that way your guage in the truck can be used. It was only like $25 from the propane guy. WWW.propaneguy.COM

i have been runing my truck on propane for 3 years now and i love it i see no loss in MPG but there is a slight loss in power which is around 10%. but it is arounnd 110 octane so you can go up a ways on your compression to make up for it. i am getting propane right now in yakima,WA for $1.50a gallon and it burs alot cleaner making your motor last longer.
