: had a thought of movin rear spring hanger...
DCruiser138 02-23-2002, 06:46 PM ya ya ih8mud..in fact thats where i got this question. the rear hangers are held on by rivets now right?..so...if i moved em up, couldny i use like big azz gr8 bolts and it would be just as strong as stock? im thinkin, i could do this all by meeself w/ no welder if so. eh?...:rasta:
---p.s....my rear shackle angle is LAME!:flipoff2: and losing a little lift wont hurt a thang
Mr McGee 02-23-2002, 06:53 PM well if u were suspended over a cliff, and had a choice between a grade 8 bolt or a rusty rivet to hold you up, which would you choose?? seriously, get some stainless or even just standard bolts and you should have better than stock.
BTW, I'm not saying your weight would break a rivet or a grade 8 bolt :D :D
DCruiser138 02-23-2002, 06:59 PM lol...so, like standard bolts are fine...then wouldnt gr8 be even better?! i allready have lost of gr8 3/8s" so why not go bigger? i hope this doesnt turn into a gr8 vs. gr5 b.s.fest! if it does im deleting this...lol

What i meant by standard was like, not stainless. If it was mine, i'd weld it, but thats only cause we have a welder. If i didnt have a welder, I would go to wherever you get your bolts from (aka, dads work:D ) and i would get the best friggin 3/8" grade 8s they make (aka, some stainless shiat)
just my opinion....

Erik D_lux 02-23-2002, 07:54 PM They are actually welded on. Not much but a little. If you are going to take them off and put them back on I would do gr8 bolt and weld. If not then the hanger will be able to twist since the bolts are just in a line. My advice is welding hangers is a must.
DCruiser138 02-23-2002, 09:28 PM ok..then what il do..is move em myself @ home w/ bolts..then some day go to jeffs and take a case of nattie for him..and then weld. ok..peace thanks guys...

RustyNailJustin 02-24-2002, 10:35 AM O dogwalker will be the first to admit he is a natty drinking mother sucker!!! Natural light aint nothing wrong wit it!!
BJ On Roids 02-24-2002, 02:03 PM the hanger itself is held on by 2 rivets and a small amount of weld.
the plate the hanger is bolted/riveted too is actually held on by four rivets..
big triangular plate with a folded edge on one side!
i replaced the rivets about a year ago with 4, grade 5 bolts, and was intiially checking it all the time worried it would snap off
checked it yesterday and still no movement :rasta:
warpdriv 02-24-2002, 07:18 PM I did that on mine. With a spring flip and the rear spring hanger reversal (RSHR), I moved the rear axle back 7.5 inches.
I do not know how to attach pictures so go to:
