What are some modifications needed to drop a 392 in place of my 304? Motor mounts? Wiring? What about radiator? Same?

Basically i want more UMPH than the 304 has, and I can get my hands on a 392 for dirt cheap, it just needs a new carb. And it has 155PSI comp tested all around.

just need to know how easy or hard it will be before jumping on it...

Its pretty much a direct swap. Just swap the mounts from your 304 block in place of the ones on the 392 and go nuts.

1976 IH TERRA, not sure what motor it had originally, i think it HAD a 345. Then someone swapped it out to the 304. But I want the 392 now. I dont know where the 392 came from, as it is from a junkyard and the owner cant remember what vehicle it came from...does it make a huge difference?

What the engine came out of does make a difference, but everything that could cause problems can be seen from the outside. First off, is it could have a deep pan used on the medium and heavy duty trucks. This pan will probably clear you axle while sitting, but as soon as you flex your going to hit it. If possible you should swap on your "double hump" pan. Also, there is a possibility of the truck having 3 bolt exhuast flanges. From what I remember these flanges will not clear the Scout II frame rails. Third is the intake. A few medium and heavy trucks acutally had a high rise style four barrel intake that will put the air cleaner up high enough to interfere with your hood.

Good Luck!

Along with the double hump oil pan, he will also need to swap oil pumps too. Either that or modify the oil pickup tube on the 392.

ScoutII ehx. man.s will work fine ,If it have a single ehx. the Y will have to be stretched to accomodate the wide block. The oil filter mount will have to be changed to scout. if the 392 is from a load star it may have an oil cooler on the filter mount, don't worry about elliminating it as your not hauling 25,000 lbs up the hiway. It will likely have apoints dist. in it , change to Scout part is direct. Then your install is ScoutII.
