: Ford NP205 to TH350???
Supergper 02-24-2002, 10:37 AM I heard that they both have the same "round" bolt pattern and would bolt right up???
If its true what probelms am I going to encounter??? The reason I need the Ford 205 is cause I need a driver side front output to go to my HP60...if the Ford 205 wont work then what other options do I have to achieve this with a stock t-case(I will be going Atlas II when $$$$ permits)
Drivetrain will be 4.3L-TH350-NP205(hopefully)
road1will 02-24-2002, 10:58 AM why do you want a 205? for a 4.3 and TH350 why wouldnt you use a D300? sure you have to buy an adapter, but it is a much more usable case with more upgrades available than the 205. with a little bit of $ it can be made more than strong enough for your app. too. just my opinion, i dont know about the bolt pattern thing.
Supergper 02-24-2002, 12:23 PM Well I have though about the D300...I even have a line on one cheap...but it still gets me the wrong side drop...I could buy a shit load of adapters and then be able to flip it ad adapt it to the TH250 but by the time I am done I would have spent enough cash to get the Atlas...I am just looking for a temp solution to get it back on the road(or I might end up keeping the 205 and doing a klune-v...then I would have some serious crawl:D:D:D)
NE-RokToy 02-24-2002, 01:18 PM I would think it may be worth a try, get a 205 and give it a shot. Matt S is gonna run a np203 reduction from a chevy into a ford 205. The issue I see is the spline count being wrong with the ford np205 but it may be the same.
RocnWilly 02-24-2002, 02:09 PM First of all a TH350 has a square four bolt pattern. The TH350 also has a 27 spline output shaft. I think most fords had 31 spline output shafts. Either way you go I think you will need to buy and adapter unless you gore with the Chevy 203 to Ford 205 doubler. Check out Offroaddesign.com Watson has a great write up on 205's. He is very helpful and could point you in the right direction.
RHINO 02-24-2002, 02:57 PM no no no lets make this easy and cheap !!!!
get a TH350 that had a NP208 behind it. the 205 will bolt up with very minimal work.
first, test fit the 205, sometimes they fit right on and sometimes the inner bolts are too big, you'll see what i mean, just press it lightly to the tranny and it will make marks where the bolts hit, lightly drill them out to let the bolts fit in, again you'll see what i mean.
second is of course the shift linkage, which is no biggie.
i have replaced 208's with 205's on both a ford and two chevy's so i know it works.
i also replaced the chevy 208 with a ford 208 on my buddies burb and mounted a divorced dodge 205 behind with just a u-joint, workin great so far, cant beat a free doubler.
RocnWilly 02-24-2002, 03:13 PM Thanks Rhiono. Does the Ford have the same 32 spline output as the TH350?

Awesome thats the info I was lookin for(I had been told it would work but I didn't know how???)...thanks guys keep the info comin
Cliffy [JD] 02-24-2002, 04:25 PM The TH350 has a 27 spline shaft, not 32. The TH400 had the 32 spline; and MOST if not ALL ford 205's had a 31 spline input. So I think it might be more work that you think if you don't get the right 205.
Although I don't know what the spline count on a TH350 with a 208 is. :usa:
Supergper 02-24-2002, 04:30 PM So if I got a TH400 with the 32 spline shaft it would be easier??? I am not totally set on Trans yet but can get a good deal on either???
RHINO 02-24-2002, 04:36 PM well i have done a total of three trannies that all had 208 cases originally mounted. it worked for me on all three, two TH350's and one c6. now i may have gotten lucky, and you may want to double check the spline count before you swap, but like i said, it worked for me on all three.
JEEPRZ 02-24-2002, 05:41 PM Are the 205 input gears interchangeable?
cruiserrg 02-24-2002, 08:56 PM Seems like a lot of differing information here.
I would look at these links which cover a lot of good x-fer case info.

From my understanding, and from reading the information contained there Cliffhanger is right that the TH350 came with 27 spline output shafts with both the NP203 and NP208. You would have the find a factory th350 to np208 adapterplate which has the circular pattern, but I am not certain it matches the ford bolt pattern or has the relieve cut for the drive select shift rail(newer al Ford NP205s may not need this, but cast ones do).
The Ford NP205 came with a 31 spline input.
For my 4.3 700r4 setup I am going to run a GM NP203 range box to a Ford NP205. I would look at this setup to acheive your needs plus have extra gearing. Only adapter would be the ORD doubler kit or from Wrangler Machine.
Supergper 02-24-2002, 09:01 PM So how much will you have into your doubler and t-case...how hard is it to find those cases...is it a divorced 205 you need???
RocnWilly 02-25-2002, 01:02 PM I picked up a chevy 203 for $40 and one mated to a TH350 for $50 for the set. Both 203 gear boxes in great condition. They are pretty much bullet proof like the 205's. The doublers are $740 from off-road design and $750 from WMS. Than add the cost of crossmember and shifter linkage, and modifying the drive shafts. The 203 205 doubler is four inches longer than just the 205.
