I am curious, if anyone would be willing to build their own longarms for a street driven jeep? I keep thinking this, because I did a full width swap and now the suspension sucks. Well it sucked before but now I notice it more, and there are no complete kits that I like. I have a very compitent welder/fabricator willing to help with this project, but some people have mentioned that the safety of the home built kit versus what you can buy is just not worth the savings. I don't really see where the difference would be, if a weld breaks it breaks. I would not trust my welding, but I have two certified welders that are more than willing to help and weld the parts up for me. They have welded axle tabs and other parts for me in the past, and build trailers that are constantly going up and down the highway with huge loads on them. My problem is that this build will put others at risk if something fails, but then again so does the fullwidth swap.

check this out www.jeepsunlimited.com, or www.mallcrawlin.com, what do you need long arms and full width axles on a street jeep? :shaking:

My TJ only really sees the street to get me to and from the trail. I don't have the $$$ for a tow rig at the moment. I would much rather have a toy and a tow rig, but untill I recover from student loans and other finacial choices I am going to try to make the TJ work. Plus I just haven't been able to find a willy's for my crawler project that is located close enough for me to get. Then I could sell the TJ, put the full widths under the willys and buy a tow rig. Until then I am stuck in a TJ with full width axles and a shitty suspension. The full widths are a result of 3 broken axles and a desire to stop breaking shit on the trail. Of course now I just break other parts, but then I get to upgrade.

search for link suspension in gen 4x4 and look through the jeep section... there are several buildups with custom link suspensions. No reason a home built kit can't be as safe as a store bought kit

Thanks for the thought of the search.... Always seems to skip my mind when I go to post, but then when I research that is all I do. I have just had a bunch of people telling me to go with sky jacker or another kit, problem is $$$ and I don't like any of the kits. They all give me the engineering is involved and you could fuck it up arguments. Skyjacker puts tons into R&D and testing so they are better. The way I see it, is that no matter what I am the weak link. If I go with a kit, I put it in. If I build it myself, (with lots of help from friends who are much better with metal and suspension than me) then I am still the weak link, but I get the setup I want.

Bullshit. Many suspension companies throw something together and out the door it goes. If you go store built look at RE or FT. Most of the larger companies don't put in the time. It is more important to be first to market, than to do it right.

There are no stores near me that even carry this stuff. All has to be ordered off the internet so I don't have the chance to look at it unless I buy it. And if I buy it then I didn't build it. That is the delima. I would rather build it, than buy anything. I learn more, I enjoy it more, and it just plain looks cool. :smokin:
