Yeah, I saw your buddy grenade his front driveshaft. He put on a good show doing it though. In fact 4 guys in a row broke in the same spot. Then Jason Bunch walked right up it.

I saw it. Too bad I saw it because I saw it means we broke too. My friend Bob, and Jason broke right before him. Grenaded a Warn 35 spline rear full floater axle.

Lance was in second as of yesterday. spotting for the JP Off Road stock class rig. The "B" side or west? course was much harder there was a huge differeence in points between the two.

JeepMangled87,
If the black jeep on 44" TSL's is the same one Im thinking of, it was a kid driving it, and he basically got laughed off the course because he couldnt drive. Got constant heckling, and timed out on more than one course, having to back out. I think he eventually went home after he got sick of the heckling. It was all in all a decent event. Not as much carnage as Ive seen before, but some decent stuff. Tri county managed to flop over on their side, then drive it back onto its wheels and still finish the course in record time. That was cool. Not very much carnage though. Im hoping to make it to cal rocs to see more carnage the weekend after TDS :)

Chris, you were spotting for walker evans? I saw your truck out there, but I didnt know that was you spotting for Walker. So you're the one that picked up his headlight after it popped out of the front end, and he ran it over?? :D :D

Yep, I hate leaving trash/parts on the trails.

He lost lights on three corners, only one tail light was on the truck when it was done. The other lights were picked up and put into the trash too.

Well put Scott, That was probably the most pathetic driver I have ever seen in my life!!! :flipoff2: It was really funny watching his all show, no go wrangler attempt all these hills and get stuck before he made it past the second gate   then Tri-County's little beast cruise right on through with no problems.. I got a call on Friday morning at Midnight from Cathy @ JP Offroad. She said they were putting the finishing touches on a brand spankin' new stock-modified aluminum bodied TJ, and wanted to know if I'd spot for her. So I hauled ass down there, and got it awn. We came in 3rd place overall. Stock-Modified is a sweet class. It's definitely much more of a challenge getting a SM rig up some of those obstacles! I had a blast....

I've never seen Chris Geiger move so quick in my life! He was bustin' his ass for Walker! :D

Short Answer: I don't know.

Long Answer: Walker told me he did not know if he was going to make Calrocks, but was still thinking about it. As to spotting for him in the future, I have no idea. Walker was extremely nice to work with but I could not really tell if he felt I was a good spotter. Our first day was not great, but we did much better on the second day. Bottom line is results, we did not do as well as I had hoped to, and I am sure he was thinking the same. I am surprised how well we got along and when planning lines. We had nearly the exact same ideas. During the runs, he kept his cool even when things were not going right. He seemed to trust and listen to me. He followed my instructions even when his rig was teetering and about to roll over. He truly has no fear when driving.

It was a blast working with him, and driving a top dollar rig like his was very interesting.

I sure would like to do it again! Had a blast!

I agree. That kid worked on his Jeep all night before the competion. I did not hear the other participants giving him a bad time. Just the white trash spectators. Too bad those spectators don't have balls to compete themselfs. Then again they would not have a chance in their oil burning Toyota Corola. Most of the spectators were pretty good but some were just IDIOTS.

Yep, and this is the spotter who was not spotting. HMMM, he's 18 and im 22. You guys realize this is our fist time to see or watch any Rockcrawling event, much less compete in one, but hell we drove all the way from TX to start this shit. There was not much we could do with 44's and no steering, but it was a great time and learning experience. So we hit a few cones and timed out some big freaking deal!! It was nice meeting u Lance, Chis G, and everyone else there. We'll be back and better prepped. Hey withamc, I was nervous as F#@k so :flipoff2: . Obviosly we found out bigger is not always better. So you bitches who want to sit around and talk smack, I know Bob had lots of entry spots left, where the hell were u??? Oh yea yelling at me!!!:D We had a blast! Take it as constructive criticism and not so much as "talking smack". Maybe you got to watch how some of the other spotters and drivers were in constant communication. Get some practice sessions in and learn how to use hand signals and work as a team.
Where was I? I was watching my first competition. My Jeeps not ready yet. I've still got high steer clearance issues to work out, and a better T-case with 4:1 gears before I'm ready. I'm looking forward to competing one of these days. For the record I was not one of the "white trash" hecklers.
Congrats for having the balls to enter and keep at it even if you were having a tough time.

No hard feelings man, it was a great learning experience. I talked for a long time with the spotter for Tri-C-G, during the event and after. I have never really spotted at anything like this before, Im usually driving, but my rigs torn down too. The heckling is part of it, I can handle it and any criticism, we'll do better like u said it takes practice.

We came in last in the modified class. As far as I'm concerned they did better than Matt and I. We broke and did so very early on. Why would any of us competitors talk smack about someone that was out there actually competing. Our steering bound up in the first obstacle. On the second we punctured the oil pan after we knocked the skid plate off. On the third we punctured a factory non fixable fuel line, lost a coil spring, bent/wasted a shock, and twisted a bunch of control arms. So it seems they did much better than us.

Some of our friends that were there said you guys were having a great time. That's all that counts.

Hey Brian heard you got married  J/K The yellow TJ sure didn't work well this time too.

Chris Geiger
02-26-2002, 08:33 PM
I talked to the "boy wonders" from Texas for about an hour as we were waiting for the closing ceremonies. I was parked right next to them and we talked about the runs and their rig. It's true their rig did not score a lot of points, but these first timers to Johnson Valley had no idea what they were up against. They did their best and were able to keep there rig together for most of the event. They did better than many other rigs. Talking to them they clearly knew what they needed to do to and planned to make the changes as soon as possible.

The ARCA course was used for most of the trails but the lines marked were harder than any other event I have seen in JV.

They sure did a whole lot better than the yellow mog that pulled up and broke 20 feet into the run, failing the rear shaft, right front U joint and then catching on fire. That mog sat there blocking the trail for about 6 hours!

I think the Texas boys are going to be back next year with a new improved rig and a much better idea of what it takes to conquer these trails.

I see. The buggy is really something. It is almost no fun to go wheeling with it anymore. It is too hard to keep up in a "normal" rig. I don't know when Jason will get any time to finish the next buggy that is started in the shop. They are competing in almost every event around. ARCA, CalRocks, UROC, ProRock, etc... You should come up here, and we will show you some wheelin'.

Mieser,
Sorry for the late reply. I think the buggy works so well because of the balance, and the controlled flex. I have rolled my spring over CJ onto each sind more than enough times to know exactly when it is about to go. You can feel when a normal spring rig is about to go over. In the buggy we laid it completly over, and it never once felt unstable. Climbing up or down, either side, the thing never feels bad. I don't know if you have ever seen pics of the famous waterfall on Hal Johns. Jason drove to the top in the buggy, then turned around and drove part way DOWN it, stoped in the middle, and backed up it. Never felt bad. It really is an experience to drive, and ride in. The springs never unload like some 1/4 elip or coil rigs. You will have to drive it for yourself, especially now with a little Ram Jet power.

Mieser
02-28-2002, 11:29 AM
Brian,

Thanks for the info. Last time I talked to Jason he had just gotten the RamJet fired and hadn't driven it more than across the shop. The entire buggy is impressive. Do you have any pics of the ramjet installed, Jason mentioned that he was going to build a really cool dual element air cleaner that swept back along each side of the intake phenlum. I think I am going to start another thread for this stuff.....
