hey guys, well i'm pretty under way on my 91 trooper sas. having some troubles with everything being just seized. pretty much have to cut everything out. got the driver side out, most of the pass. side and the bumper, skid, torsion bar,driveshaft,etc...
have my BJ60 front axle, springs, shocks, shackles, and working on the front crossmember.
had some wuestions for ya?
the 4 big bolts holding the axle in place will not budge! i don't have torches and can't really get at them with the disc. any suggestions?
i don't have torches but they will be on my list of shit to get! :(
as for cleaning up the frame rails where i'm cutting all the ifs shit off, any other way to clean it up without torches? or just zip discs? i have a sawzall but haven't found really decent steel blades?

any info or tips would be greatly appreciated.

i have pics if anybody wants to post them for me.

For getting the bolts off try soaking it in PB Blaster and the use a big ass breaker bar. Maybe even a long pipe on the end of the big ass breaker bar. As for cutting the stuff off the frame, good luck. It was a bitch getting everything off the frame of mine even with a torch. About the only other thing you can do is drop about 50 bucks on cutting wheels, gringing pads, and sawzall blades and go to town.

I had the same problem with mine, but I have torches :D I used big cutting discs to cut everything off my frame after all the bulk was torched off. I tried to torch some off but it was messy and hot and I still had a bunch to grind, so I went to bigass zip discs on my makita.

looks good matt, only mine will havea set of new 35" krawlers :flipoff2:
and after the first flop or two it will be a chop top as well. i'm going to start collecting tube for the cage. i have my fenders trimmed out a fair bit as well and will go with YJ flares witch fit pretty nicely to cover the wheels as the cops are pretty strict up here for that.
they'll be quick realese for the trails if i choose to take them off.

hard to tell from the pic, but mine was flopped at twice on the pass side. troopers are pretty damn tuff.

as far as getting the stuff off, i used my lincoln buz box. not sure what kind of welder you are using, but if you've got a stick, crank the heat all the way up with a 6011 rod and just burn it all off :smokin: what i like to call the torch welder. i did that to get the bulk of it off then went back with the sawall and cut off wheels. keep posting pics

i'll try and post some progress pics this weekend. i only have a mig welder , so i can't use your method.

hard to tell from the pic, but mine was flopped on an RTI ramp

:flipoff2:

IsuzuCrawler, I have used that method as well with some success. They make rods specifically for cutting, but I have never tried them.

another question?

got the pass. side controll arms off and the torison bar, also undid the 4 bolts on either side of the axle. now, where the axle is bolted to the mounting plates on bothe sides, there is a bit that sticks out on the outer edge of it.. how do i drop my axle out? or do i have to undo the two big nuts on either side? there really on there and i'm having trouble.

on a good note, i just have to drop the axle, clean up the frame and then the new one will be reay to install.
:D

If you are going to cut the top off, and it is not a daily driver, you can get seats from www.summitracing.com for abouit $39 each. get some flat stock, drill 3 holes leave overhang and weld these to the zoo slider frame. . All I had to do was cut the slider handle, and re-attach (weld) to get everything to fit.

looking good. you should have plenty of room for your 35's. How far forward (from stock) will you push it? You going shackle forward or reversed?

If you get a chance could you measure how wide your axle is WMS-WMS? I've seen 60" and I've seen 58", I'd just like to know for sure.

'preciate it

looking good. seems you have plenty of lift to clear 35's.

one question though, how far forward did you move that axle? looks as though you mounted your springs directly under the end of the frame rails without any frame extension. is that right? it would be nice to see a profile shot so we can see what sort of clearance you have between the tire and the fender/body tub.

yup, spring hangers are mounted under the end of the frame rails.
as soon as i get the big rubber on there i'll take some clearence shots. not worried though, whatever rubs will get cut off! :smokin:

got the new u bolts for the rear soa as well, that should only take ma aday or two to do.

still need some front gears for the bj60 axle, need to get as close to 4:56 as possible. just don't want to buy new.

i'll post some more progress pics later on next week.

not such a hurry here, there will be a back country fire ban on very soon. so no real wheelin anyway untill probobly mid to end of sept.
