I own a 68 fJ 40 Landcruiser and I am not exactly sure how to engage or disengage the 4 wheel drive. Any help?

My 68 (when it was stock) had the vacuum shifting setup. Its the big black ball hanging under the dash, and the cable knob (pull to engage) near the heater. Pull the balck ball toward you and it will engage and low range and 4wheel drive at the same time. The cable engages 4 wheel drive allowing 4 hi.

OK thanks. One more question. Do I have to engage both the cable and the black ball for 4 wheel drive or do I do one or the other depending on 4x4 high or 4x4 low.

if you are in 2wd, simply pull out on the knob by the heater and you will be in 4wd hi. if you want to be in 4 lo, pull out on the ball under the dash and you will automatically be in low gear and 4wd at the same time. you do not need to pull on the knob by the heater when you go into low range with the ball under the dash. comprende? later.
