A friend of mine is working on a Scout II. He is looking at going SOA and is in need of some help. What do you use for steering knuckles? We've read a lot of the past posts but we are a little confused. Are you adapting Chevy knuckles? What other options are there for him? He is running a Dana 44 front and rear. The steering is what he really needs information on. We looked at some of the Avalanche arms that someone posted on the web but we couldn't figure out how they bolt up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Bud, I'm far from an expert on this subject! But you didn't mention if he is going SOA with the Scout 44's, which I'm guessing he is, or if he is using full width diffs?
anyway if he uses the scout, I believe he will have to cut-n-turn the knuckles and adapt a pair of chevy 44 flat top knuckles, which will have to be milled and tapped for the hysteer arms.... He also may, but don't quote me on this, may be able to get away with a "z" drag link....
anyway check out this link:

lots of good info..

and after your done looking at Billa Vista's site, do a search in this foram (as well as the "general" foram). We've talked about it in great detail lately.
If after that you still have specific.. then we'd be happy to help.
in a nut shell, he has two basic options. "Z"ed draglink, and high-steer. Both have their pro's and cons, both work.

Thanks for the info. That website is exactly what he needed. So it looks as though he needs to switch to the flat top style knuckles. One other question we had was what do you use for a dropped pitman arm? I'm sorry I'm asking lousy questions. I'm pretty excited about all of this as I've never worked on a Scout before and it is very interesting. He has 3, one is going to be a mild wheeler with a SOA. And we intend to build a hardcore wheeler out of the other 2 parts rigs. He wants do a coil spring conversion on that one. We need to get this one done first. Right now he has Rancho 4" lift springs are those as stiff as we've read? He's willing to spend $ on custom springs if these don't work out, but these came with one of the parts rigs and are brand new. Thanks again for the advice.
Later!

I talked with my friend and he's interested in possiblely going to coil overs instead of a SOA configuration. Does anyone know of a site that has this or is their a manufactuer who makes them for Scouts? Or do you need to reconfigure something from a Jeep application. Thanks again for answering my initial questions.

He does not need to run Hi-steer, he can run a dropped drag link. Is this your first SOA on a Scout? You might want to search here, and at the Binder (http://www.binderbulletin.org) I spent about a month planning my front SOA, and another month gathering parts.

Oh boy here we go  Your buddy owns a Scout, nothing comes over the counter. 95% of the coil setups you see are full custom suspension, I.E. custom links, brackets, frame mounts, ...... You'd better do a lot of searching on this board prior to running coils.

Most of us are seeking RAISED pitman arms, not dropped! :)
When you stuff the front springs with an SOA the spring has a tendency to hit the pitman arm.. with the stock setup.
