: So, I was thinking about 57's up front

...and how the hangers to give it the 4" of lift would hurt the approach angle.

What about ford 4" lift springs? The hangers wouldn't have to be so long.
Any thoughts?

4" lift springs will give you 8" of lift...or so. Stock springs will give you 4" of lift....depending on how heavy your rig is. Most people move their hangers forward to deal with the longer springs, not down unless you are a show truck/bogger and want a bunch of lift.

If you get thin ones they will  what most people don't realize is there are a bunch of 57" leaves. The 3" wide packs work very well. I used a main leaf that was thicker...I'm guessing that it was from a 3/4 or one ton. The others were thinner and tapered at the ends.

I coulden't get a set of aftermarket 2.5" leaves to stay arched...I would always kink them. These 3" 57" ford leaves work better than anything else I have seen.

Is your rig fairly heavy? I know your profile says it's a Toy/Chevy hybrid. I'm in a full size. I want something that'll flex well. Coils would be sweet, but expensive.
I've got a set of 63's for the back

Well last time I weighed it I was around 4500lbs loaded for the trail ... I have cut more sheetmetal off and added more tube but think overall it was a wash and I am close to the same weight.

I had bent/kinked a set of skyjacker lift springs and a set of 52's before I went to these 57's. I wanted a raked angle to the front springs so it would absorb the impact of bouncing into obsticles better. I also wanted to go to a wider spring so they would last longer. I have a buddy with a Ford on 44's that has been running the same set of 57's for 5 years or so...

I would say that they flexed the same or maybe a little stiffer than the set of 52's I was running. Its hard to say but they are soft yet strong. I will be running a set of 52's on the little camping truck I am building...but sticking with the 57's on this rig.

Here is a front flex shot. They are well ballanced when compaired to my 56" allpro rear springs.

if your looking for something that flexs good and wont bend the spring why not 56s there easy to install and flex like hell w/ 7 inch shackles

Why not 52's? :) Going from a regular stock lenght lift spring to a 52 makes a big difference... Plus, not as much work involved as custom fabbin mounts. Or do even like southern said with the 56" springs. I hear you just move the front hangers and leave the rear mounts alone....

I think the Ferd's would be too lightweight and you'd need to add alot of leaves to make up the difference.

Now that the tree-eighty-tree is apart, you thinking of redoin Joleen? :)

2.5" wide springs suck! I won't waste my time with them any more in the wheeling rig. But if you are running a light duty 4wd they will work just fine. I am using 52's in my summer/camping truck.

Just tryed a set of Furds on my brothers truck, they are way too soft. They aren't much better than stock ones, maybe 2". We need something stronger but would like at least 6".

They will work if you use 2 main leafs and cut the eyes off one. I have a pic around somewhere of one on a 79 bronco that a friend did.
