Hey all im new to posting here! i have been roaming around for about a year and finally signed up! anyway i have a question. I have been building my samurai for about 6 months now and am about finished. Now comes the time when i have to buy t-case gears. I have been debating between 4:1 and 5:1 . I have put waggy 44's under the sami with 5.13:1 axle gears. It is also a stock 1.3 with the manual tranny. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! also keep in mind that the body has been pretty much hacked off from fenders forward and targa bar back and replaced with tube. The gas tank is in the back in the tub and out of dangers way also! its yj srping over with custom mounts and such. Also it has 36 inch tires that i plan on upgrading to 37inch iroks. i want to mainly play in the rocks with it but since im from michigan i know ill end up in the mud sometimes also. thanks for your help!

I would go with 6.4:1's from trail tough or the 8:1's if youre gonna be doing rock crawling mostly. 4:1's aint gonna cut it. Mine has d44's, 37's, 6:1's and 5.38's and it is setup just right. I would like to have the extra power that the 8:1's would give me.

i think 6:1 would be a little low for where divino lives he is not in the rocks all the time, up here you need some power to get the tiresd moving a frined of ours has 6:1 and 4:88 and his seems a little low for around here i think that puts him at 110:1 or so. if dave went with 5:1 it would put him around 90:1, dont quote me on the math im sleepy

I agree. There is 4 other gears to choose from other then first. I use first until I get started up a steep hill then shift to second. If you dont go low enough then your up the creek without a paddle. I would rather have to much power then not enough.

I have waggy 44's with 5.89 gears, 35" tires and a 4.1 t case kit, I wish I was just little slower for the rock sometimes.

I would go with the lowest gears you can afford. It isn't like it is a highway rig :D For $719, the 6.4:1 gears from TT are hard to beat.

I've got wag 44's with 5:38's, 4.16:1 t-case and 35" MTR's. Has worked real good crawlin thru all of Colo, NM, UT finest hard core trails. I would like to be a little lower however. I'm going to 5:1 t-case gears if I stay with the 35" tire size, otherwise the 6:1 gears with 37"s.

thanks for the replys guys! im thinking i am going to go with the 6:1's for now and see how they work. By the sounds of it they will be good with 36's. :p
