Got the York mounted up today for OBA and ran it a bit to test it out. Seems to be pumping some oil out the discharge. The compressor is mounted vertically and when running it with the discharge side open there is an appreciable amount of oil splatter on a rag held in front of the discharge within about 30 seconds. Do these things always pump some oil? I was wondering if it could have been due to the compressor laying on its back or upside down or whatever on the trip home from the junk yard.

On the side they do indeed pump oil, vert I can't say, but a little in system should not hurt much. You could always add a seperator.

Sounds like it may need a rebuild.

My York on my JEEP is mounted on it's side, and it pumps out some oil.

I've seen some mounted vertically and they pumped out oil as well...just enough to get in your lines etc. mayeb not all of them do, and if you fill it up with too much oil it will pump it out too.

I run a regular old tool filter that takes out a good amount of it.
But you still get some in the lines...not a big deal if you ask me.

As for needing a rebuild, I thought Yorks were made to PUMP OIL.

The amount of oil it is pumping out seems to be lessening. When I was cleaning and painting it, I did have it turn almost on its head, side, etc.. I'm thinking that this allowed some oil to get up into the discharge side of things.... I will just have to keep an eye on it and see if it quits spitting oil.

The york is designed to pump some oil with the refrigerant.
It doesn't matter which way it is mounted.
this guys write-up (http://members.home.net/cglabe1/Air/OilFix.html) is an excellent fix for the blow-by.Or you could add an oil seperator.
