I have a couple of questions that maybe some of you may be able to shed some light on, I've surfed for hours and cant find the answers: was the h233b offered with a 4:10(or 4;11) stock? What years (motor/tranny)was it offered? Does anyone know the width? And was the h260 ever offered stateside in anything? I appreciate any help, thanks, Duane

5 speeds had 4.375's, automatics had 4.625's, the gearing had nothing to do with trim packages.
I know that Hardbodies did come with 4.11's in the late 80's, they for sure were availible with the C200, not sure if the H233 came with them or not, I do know that there is a 4.11 gear set made for the H233 though. Hardbody H233's are 59" wide, and Frontier ones are around 62" if I remember right. As far as I know, the H260 was never used here and it is probably going to be quite a while before the Patrols that had them will be able to be imported here.

I'm thinking about installing one in the rear of one of my Patrols-The front is a 4:10(4:11?) and I'm happy with it, I've never heard of the front axle failing on the old 60 series Patrol, and the turning radius on them is incredible. The biggest problem is that there is no lockers or alternative gears available and brake parts are getting a little difficult to obtain. I'm heading down to Mexico to check out junkyards this weekend, I'm praying that somehow their heavy duty Nissan pickups may have the elusive h260....

This is not entirely true. Everyone seems to forget the bastard R50 model series. On the 96 - 2004 pathfinders (R50 is the model designation) the 33 spline, larger shaft, version of the H233B was the only axle. It is 62" WMS-WMS. ARB lockers are available and gears to 5.13.
Almost all XE and LE models from 96-99 had 4.3x gears the SE models came with 4.6x gears. AFAIK tranny choice didn't matter. These axles also had large rear drum brakes. After 2001 the trim didn't have significance on axle ratio.
If you can find an axle out of an R50, get it because
#1 you will know it's the stronger 33 spline version.
#2 only two gear choices from the factory with 4.3x being the most popular

If the H260 was ever used in the USA, it would be under a UD box/flatbed/tow truck.

So a late 80's V6 might be the best bet for a 4:11?

you are looking for a rear axle right? one of your posts confused me with the truning radius stuff - no nissan was ever offered with a solid front in the states. if i misunderstood you - sorry

He's keeping the front axle on his patrol (because he likes the strength and turning radius) but looking to use a 233 to replace the rear...

thats right bgaiden, I'm searching for a rear H233b (orH260) with the 4:11 stock, the cost of swapping gears is pricey so I'm trying to avoid it. I'd like to do the swap in such a way that all mods are on the axle itself, none on the Patrol. And FrontCC- I'm not going to flame ya but Nissan did offer a solid axle......

elminero67 is right, FrontCC. 60 Series Patrols came with solid axles(C216's with 4.10:1 ratios), since the only IFS 4x4 in the 60's Im aware of was a Kaiser-Jeep Wagoneer with a RARE IFS option.
I wonder how much Ian(RMP&O) would have to spend to get us some H260's here?

The Wagoneer came with an optional IFS? THAT is scary shit!

what about the Ford Mutt and the Mighty Mite? Didnt they have some form of IFS?

I shit you not. Check it out... http://www.fourwheeler.com/thehistoryof/83298/index2.html
Well, I always thought the Mutt was a 70's model. Didnt know they were built in the 60's... As far as the mighty mite, I guess I had them confused with the Mutt. Thought every time somebody was talking about the Mighty Mite, I automatically assumed they were talking about the Mutt. Believe it or not, I have never seen a Mighty Mite before you mentioned it. I looked for pics on google, and I dont guess Ive ever seen one...

Dont remember the dates but I believe the Mutt came out around 62ish, I have no idea about the dates for the air cooled Mighty Mite but if memory serves me it was designed for Vietnam, I've only seen two myself and they are high on the Funkidelic list-I've never seen either on the trail but it would be interesting to see how they perform. Now that I've highjacked my own thread I'm still wondering what years the 4:11 H233b was offered..

how many 60 series patrols were offered in the US, new?

around 2600 from 62-69

Elminero- since 4.11 was the numerically lowest gear ratio available for the H233B, it would be safe to assume that it would probably be more likely found in a V6 automatic Nissan than a carbed 4-banger 5-speed Nissan. Does Nissan use RPO codes on their newer models? I know they didnt on my Patrol, but maybe they do. If so, a dealer could probably give you the RPO code for the 4.11 axle ratio...

I have 2 autos, one is geeared 4.3, the other 4.6.

Okay, I dont know... Only thing I can think of is to check and see if they have some type of RPO codes somewhere...
Ive got a question myself though... are you going to use the rear axle as-is with a centered diff, and make your driveshaft make the jog over, or what?

I have a couple of projects which I'm considering using the H233b in, and I'm waiting to see what happens in the next few days as I found a Marks 5 speed and the guy tentatively agreed to the offer I gave him, but I havent heard back from him in a week..IF this falls through I'll have $ and know where there is a solid Patrol which I can pick up cheap and highgrade all of the good parts for my 65 and 69 and use the rest for a more serious trail rig, but I'd like to make an asskickin' all Nissan ride, looking at the rear driveshaft angle the stock Patrol rear end is offset about 4-5" and the shaft is 21" (if I remember right) It is more of an angle than I like but I've seen much steeper-I could be wrong about this working but I'm just looking at options(which may include swapping in another nissan tranny if possible...I wish having a knowledgible dealer nearby was an option but it is a 130 mile drive to the nearest one and they wont even look on the computer to see if a part is available if I am standing there with a wad of cash in my hand...kinda goes along with my Patrol mantra: Dont hate the Patrol-hate the Nissan
if anybody knows where/how to get a patrol front axle, i'm looking... :smokin:

I've got three spares in the back yard, but shipping them would be a pain

ARod- I may have one up for grabs within a couple of months... Only problem is, its set up for SOA. Im going to be swapping in a D60/14FF from a CUCV truck in my Patrol here shortly. I imagine they will be up for grabs around mid-June...

AFAIK, none of the US Nissan SUVs or trucks from 87-95 came with 4.11's in a H233B. They're available from NISMO, though. You can imagine what they cost.

[QUOTE]
Not entirely true. Gearing had a LOT to do with trim package. Here's the breakdown, applies to EVERY Pathfinder and Hardbody from '86.5-'95, stock, with H233B:
SE Trim Package: Autos had the 4.62 gears, manuals had the 4.3 gears.
XE Trim Package: ALL had the 4.3 gears.
That being said, I'm sure someone, somewhere, will come up with an exception to this rule. I also don't BELIEVE you could order any different gearing FROM THE FACTORY.
As an aside, anybody who has "3 spare H260's sitting in the backyard" fits one of the folowing criteria:
1: Has WAY more money than they need/want.
2: Doesn't know what they have.
3: Doesn't like to share.....heheheheee
4: Has a need for spares.
All that being said, I'll take a H260 in reasonable shape, for a reasonable price.

Nope, Phil. Mine is an XE/auto and it says "HG46" on the firewall tag...
