Anyone running these here on this board.

I am thinking about running a one wire setup. Alt/Dist.
I have been looking at this piticular one for some time.
http://www.performancedistributors.com/forddui.htm

I also thought about buying the live wires too. is those worth $95.00

Looks like the big block 460 ones run $359.00 bucks. Thats alot of skins.
Anyone have any exp. with them?

Also I thought about running either their one wire alternator as well.
they have two big amp ones.

Mr. Alt. for $288.00
or their is a 140 amp one for $254.00

I had them on the old Bronco. They did well but I burnt the alt. up and replaced it with a 130 amp GM one wire from a speed shop, worked pretty good. I never could keep those damn plug wires on though. They would just jump off and it was always at the worst possible time.

That bronco is kind of why I am thinking about it.
which one was on it?
That race or the performance?

I much prefer a msd billet distributor, with wire retainers, a good coil and a msd 6 offroad box, much more reliable then duraspark, or dui, meant for offroad abuse, had mine for 2 years never failed me yet.

cheaper option. this guy always sells em on ebay. says 3 yr warranty, and NOT made in Taiwan. doesnt say where they actually are, just not in taiwan.

I am most likely going to have to do something with my ignition. I took the body off my 85 FS Bronco to replace it with a Ranger cab. There were wires everywhere that I had to just cut, and the factory distributor has about 10 wires runnning to it. I am not very confident with electrical stuff, so I will be looking for a simple solution.

I found this in the vender section:

Anyone have any reports on this product?

I had also been looking at those MSD billet units. Very nice.

But is this a one wire?

I want to simplify things.

I've had a DUI in mine for about 5 years now, & love it.
Never given me a bit of trouble.

Next time I do it I'd do a DUI.. Normally an MSD man but the DUI is much simpler and works well.. It's just GM stuff (basically).. Easy to diagnos, find parts for, and fix.

I wouldn't bother with the Live Wires, I think they're a gimmick.. Just run a decent set..

Can't comment on the alts as I have no backround there..

It was teh performance. If I had it to do over I would just use teh DUI distributor, big Accel wires and a generic alternator. You would get the same bang for alot less bucks. Oh yeah, that guy called me up and asked me if I wanted to buy the Bronco back. If I can just come up with some cash I would do it.

i thought it was, its got the coil built in. arent HEI one wire? or am i confusing HEI and DUI?

The DUI is pretty much identicle to the HEI, which may be why your confused. One wire hookup. The DUI is made by Davies Unified Ignition and is basically an HEI made for your ford using higher end/hotter components. It is also custom curved on a dizzy machine for your application. I put one on a 428 and it was kick ass and problem free. I think the "livewires" are overpriced for what they are...waste of $ imo. I ran the msd superconductors with my dui and they worked fine.

comming from personal expirance, stay far, far away from one wire alts.

Your much better off with a 3 wire GM alt, or even a 3g ford.

The DUI/HEI are one wire hookups.

All they need to work is a wire thats hot in the start/run position, they ground through the case.

Optional of course is the coil - lead for the tach output.

I think for swamping, a remote-mounted MSD would be the best way to go.. Put it in the cab or something. But the DUI/HEI is still pretty problem-free unless your whole truck is under water..

How much?

Grant might be interested if your not.
That bronco is all he talks about.

I'm not planning on dunking the whole truck under water.. :D
but my wife may... lol

Why not go with a 1 wire Alt?
