I searched the name and all I got was recomendations of his bikes, which is a good thing.

I'm just starting out mountain biking and found a Gary Fisher Wahoo that fits me real well, the price is very reasonable and I like it a lot. Does anybody have any opinions on these bikes or others around the same price range? ($370) Thanks in advance!

What exact kind of riding do you do? FOr anything more than cruising around on the streets i would not trust the alivio components. Pick up something with at least all deore components. If you are set on a Fisher the Tassajara seems like a deal, LX derauillers and a better fork with lock out. Fisher also has a nice matchmaker thing on their site you may want to try out http://www.fisherbikes.com/matchmaker/

Make sure you take into account how much you are going to use it, i would never recommend a $2500 bike to someone who will use it once a year or a $500 bike to someone who rides every day.

I'm just going to be using it to get into shape and conditioning really. I'll be doing some very light trails for awhile- my knees are damaged and I have to build up the muscle in/around them. This bike would pretty much only be a starter bike- I want to make sure that it's something I'm going to be doing for awhile before I invest any serious money into it. I'm going to try to get out a couple times a week (3-5)

Try this site... http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/xc_hardtail/
Scroll down until you see the Gary Fisher Wahoo, it has 12 reviews on it I think. Remember to ride the bike before you buy it to make sure you feel comfortable on it. Good Luck

Some other bikes in that price range are the Giant Rincon at about $329, Specialized Hardrock Sport at about $350, and a Trek 4300 for like $370 I think. I'm in the process of looking for a bike too so I've been out and around the bike stores a lot lately. If you want some bike stores to go to in Spokane let me know and I'll tell you who carries what.

i have a wahoo that i picked up as a hand me down and ive spent lots of trail time on it. The post above is right about the derailers. I now have lx stuff on the rear. After taking a couple of healthy falls i started getting less the desiable shifting. But i really like the bike.

After reading those reviews (thanks Toy94!), I went back to the shop and took the Wahoo for a test ride. The bike was as good as the reviews made it out to be and I bought it yesterday. As I said before, I'm just starting out so this will be my overall conditioning/starter bike and I'm not looking to advance up to a higher performance bike for quite awhile, if ever. I'll eventually swap out the pedals and maybe some other parts, I'm really new to mountain biking so I haven't had enough experiance to need or want to start swapping out parts yet. So far it seems like an awesome bike and the price was very reasonable on it. We'll see how the bike (and I!!) do this weekend on a very easy trail! Any suggestions for things/tools/accessories that I should carry with me? Thanks again guys!

And Toy94- I bought it at Lou Lou's here in CdA, I guess they're a Spokane business originally?

Hope you have as much fun as I've been having with BX (wal-mart type) bike. I just bought a Specialized Hardrock. I did ride the Wahoo and it fealt real comfortable and since it's a GF it's got to be solid. Let me know of any good biking trails if you know of any. I've been doing a lot of riverfront park down by the bowl and pitcher. It's got a lot of different terrain to challenge me. Enjoy your new bike, I know I will mine.

Let me know what kind of terrain you're looking for, I've heard of soo many since I've lived here- Canfield Moutanin is in my backyard, so if you havent heard of that, let me know, there's sooo many trails all over that mountain. As well as the Centennial Trail and the Trail of the Coeur d'Alene's! Let me know!

Glad you like it. I think it'll be a great starter bike.

I rode a Gary Fisher Big Sur hardtail for quite a few years. It was a great bike and even when my riding progressed from XC to freeride the GF just took all the hits. The guy who bought it from me is now using it for 24hr XC races!!!
