Did you use a after market setup or factory GM? If GM what year truck did you use as a donor?
I HAVE to do this to my truck before I can use it again, so any help would be nice. :) :)

i got the brackets from a '94 1/2-ton truck, went to the boneyard and picked up all the pulley's, got the new alternator, power steering pump, reverse rotation water pump and flex fan, and the tension i had to use, since we're not running air conditioning was the one from a '94, but i had to swap the smooth pulley for a grooved one

Thanks, what about using everything off of a 4.3L v6? I know some body that has a 92 or 93 with a v6, he said he would sell me everything for $25, IF it will work. Anybody know for sure?:) :)

it should, we put everything from a 350 onto a 4.3L, don't know why you couldn't go the reverse direction, just make sure that the water pump is reverse rotation, send me your email address and i can send u a pic of the swap

With a reverse rotation water pump will I have to change the fan also? Doesn'y really matter I guess since I can take everything from the pump to the shroud off of the truck for the $25.

Damn!! When I got there yesterday afternoon almost everything was gone from the truck... The guy that had the truck (my soon to be brother inlaw) said everything was there when he had the truck towed. So now I have to round the parts up at junkyard. What a pain in the ass.
Oh yeah thanks for the pics, that clarifys a lot.:D

I did a half conversion. I used the bracket set from a 90-ish big block solid axle which has a serp. belt on the alternator. Everything else seems to work fine with a V belt but the alt didn't, so I put a serp on it. Still not an easy swap, had to have the right alt pulley, crank pulley and water pump pulley. I had some of the parts and had to go to the dealer for others and it took a bit to chase it down. BUT it used the same pump, etc.

so your runnin v and serpantine belts, if u are i bet that was hard to find pulley's for, the complete serpantine swap was pretty easy, a 1.5 hour trip to the bone yard, a schematic of the wiring in both the 81 and 94 (for alt. purposes) and about 2 hrs of labor was all it took me

I like March's serp. conversion kit. It's simple, no reverse rotation water pump, and the belts are pretty short. BUT the damn thing is $500 so I guess I will be in the junkyard early Sat. morning.

total cost on ours was only about $100 for everything, and it uses stock gm parts that i can pick up at any parts store no matter where we go
