I have allready put a 3" body lift on the sami, but now i am curious as to why there seems to be so many against a body lift. I thought a body lift keeps the COG down lower which is what we want. I am running 35 MTRs this year with a rock lobster T-case, SPOA and extra leafs in the pack and i still get a bit ot rub in at the back of the front well. Without the lift I wouldnt be able to get out of my drive with out scuffing the rubber. Whats your opinion on the body lift and why

I don't like mine becuase it looks like the body could pop off at any moment. It also looks silly (personal opinion). Redrill your spring perches and move your front axle as far forward as you can to eliminate some of the rub.

Check this link out. I didn't read the whole thing, but makes you think twice about body lifts. I personally hate the way they look.

I put a 3" on mine back in 90 and its been on since, Ive had no major issues, I wouldnt do a 3" today, probably a 1" just for a lil more room between the frame n body. I couldnt take mine off now, as over the years things have been built around it ...

Thats gotta be BS. engine....tranny....tcase....steering...driveshaft s.... no way on earth they all went with the body. Looks like he sat the body on the frame and went soap box derby down the hill and had an accident. Maybe unbolted everything trying to do an insurance job and it went worse than he thaught?

Body lifts are great, that is if you want to look like a poser and a hillrod at the same time. The frame hangs very low in stock form. Adding a body lift just makes it look that much worse.....A spring over can be done for very cheap.......

I agree that a body lift doesn't add a whole bunch of benefit and that you should do the spring over instead; however, if you have already done the spring over, and the yj kit, and cut the front bumper tubes, and banged on your inner fender and you are still rubbing... then a simple body lift of 1" is not a bad thing. 3" of body lift is another story and does look very bad but a mild body lift just to gain that little extra space is not a bad thing.

Now what do you guys think if you are using a body lift so you can 1. clear your tranny and tcase, and 2. tuck everything up above the frame? I personally am not a fan of body lifts at all, but with my v6/700r4/dana300 drivetrain I am going to have to either do a small body lift 1-2" tops, or cut into the floor a whole lot.

as far as I'm concerned the only reason I would ever run a body lift is for drive train clearance. Most of the time theyre just a cheap ghetto fix for the incorrect setup so some dumbass can fit bigger tires. And I have in the past used them, never again.

I am spoa, RUF and CJ's in the rear. I rub with 31's. I am going with Toys and 33's and a 1 inch body lift. When I get the money to run 35's I will break out the sawzall. I will probably install some bump stops next though. JC

I agree with previous statements that they shouldn't be used for tire fitment. If you are doing something very specific, and the body lift is the best or easiest way to accomplish it, go right ahead. Just try to keep it reasonable.
Travis..
edit: mine has a 3" B.L. that a previous owner installed and I hate it.

I got mine from Sky, but almost every vender that sells body lifts have them. Some vendors only carry 1 and 2 inch lifts. JC

I have a 2" body-lift and it does not look to bad because the distance of the body and the frame is not that much. i would not do a 3" - i dont like the look and i was really scared about the angle of the steering geometry and i didnt want to cut the tunnel.

2" body-lift just fits fine, can be done at home in about 6 hours.
it is cheap.
it does not change the center of gravity as much as a suspension lift.
It is a nice clipboard when you are working on your car. i always put my tools and bolts there. i do not want to miss this feature.

I agree if it's used in this scenerio. I am considering a 1" or 1.5" bodylift just to gain a little more clearance between my motor and firewall (Buick 3.8L). This should also give me just enough room to swap in a Firebird master cylinder. It won't fit right now because the valve cover is too close.
