Anyone care to take a guess on how much a 9 inch / d44 combo would weigh compared to a disked 14bolt / RC60 combo. How much weight would I gain if I stepped up to the 14/60 combo?

Just a guess, but I bet it will be at least 300 lbs more.

it's about 500 for a 44 and 9 out of an EB, and probably real close to 1000 for the 60 and 14. The 60 alone is 450-500, I think the 14 is similar...

Fourwheeler mag just listed front axles....

D44 240 lbs.
D60 505 lbs.
Rockwell 640 lbs.

What better way to find out than pull them and put them on the scale. My D44 came in at roughly 250lbs and the 9" at 200Lbs. The d60 is just too damn heavy to move!

How about the approximate weight of a front 9"/D60. You know, 9" housing with 35 spline axles, detroit, and D60 outers on 1/2 ton brakes and 5x5.5 rotors.

I plan to compete in mud bogs so yes, weight does matter.

Well I weighed my D60 front and 14BFF rear, and if one had searched he would have found this:

I weighed my 14 bolt a month ago. Disk brakes, no wheels, with fluid and cast aluminum diff cover, weighs 372 lbs.

My front Dana 60 weighs 488 complete without wheels.

The D60 was open, 14BFF had a lockrite.

thanks for the info.

Looks like adding about 410 pounds of fat when swapping in a 14bolt/RC60 in place of a D44/9". Not as much as I would have thought.:)

Dude,
If it's not heavy...it's not worth having!

410 lbs way way down low isn't all that bad! It might even help keep the rig on the ground!

Thanks for the weight info, i'm trying to keep notes on how much different stuff weighs. How about skid plates, anybody have weights for different size skids? I think weight down low is a big advantage for a narrow vehicle like an XJ. With axles, skid plates, any thing useful I'd say the heavier the better, within reason, cuz of what it does for your center of gravity.
