Need to shorten my semi-floater Dana 60-2 rear long side axle tube about 4".

Anyone have any advice? I know that I will have to set up a jig.

Did a search and it seems that there are 2 ways to do it: 1. Cut it in the middle of the axle tube, remove the 4" and then sleeve it. 2. Drill out the welds with cobalt drill bits, remove the tube from the diff, cut it down, and then press the tube back in. Is one method better than the other?

Last resort, anyone know of any good shops in MD that can do this work? Seems like people are charging like $150; I'd rather save some $$ and learn how to do it myself...but it seems like it has to be a precise job or nothing will line up correctly; carrier, bearings, etc.
