I have a line on some Q78x16 Swampers (36x12.5x16), I am wondering what if any downfalls there are with going to a 16" rim.
They will be going on a 84 CJ7
Thanks

No problem with 16" rims. Same bead design as 15" rims. It's 16.5" rims you want to avoid. BTW, the Q78 isn't equivalent to a 36X12.50. It's a 35.5X11. The 16" version should measure a full 35.5" on a 7" rim (the 15" version is .5" shorter). Also, Q78's will kick the snot out of 36X12.50's in the mud :smokin: I had 38X12.50's before I got my Q's. Shoulda got 'em a LONG time ago.

No idea. Mine are on a competition-only mud bog machine.

Hey tex, out of curiosity, what's the reasoning behind avoiding the 16.5" rim?

No, but answer me this: if you were using a hummer wheel w/ the insert cut out and replaced backwards w/ a rockwell insert, so that the 8bolt beadlock was on the inside, and you welded a rockstomper beadlock on the outside bead, then would you have a problem with 16.5"?

Unnecessary, if you are using the internal hummer beadlocks, they lock both inner and outer beads.

Really! Just goes to show how little I know about anything un-Toyota. Is it a decent beadlock? Have leak issues at 5psi?

Dude,
The only problem with 16" rims is that the max tire size available is from Interco and is a 38" x 13"

Pretty much the plan I'm looking at - Ford take off rims are plentiful here in SoCal (and the right 5 on 5-1/2" pattern for my bastard YJ)

Need to figure out backspacing, then it will probably be Q78's. Had some other ideas, until Tex posted pix of his Q78's (long ago.......)
