Here's the top of my buggy. How would you triangulate it?

I may put a bar here too.

however it woudl allow the engine to be pulled

The picture is kind of deceiving. The V in the windshield is upside down from what I'm running right now. That's looking down from the top of the cage with the multi-bend piece being the rear of the passenger compartment.

Heres my idea. Those are straight shots from all the 'corners' to opposite corners. I think it looks nice and proportional.

EDIT: I was all fawked up, and looking at it the wrong way.. Delete pic.

If you need to get to the engine, how about something like this, with the red bar being a heavier tube and with 4 bolt flanges to remove it:

Just a guess. It is similar to the old Pre-runner reinforcement for the shock towers.

Oh, shoot, I jsut realized that we are looking at the engin compartment, and not the roof like I was thinking. Disregard my version then!

i don't think we are looking at the engine compartment. That is the passenger area isn't it?

Well, If this is indeed what we are looking at, I still like my design then.

hero is reading it the same way i am, and i like his idea as well.

If that is the passenger compartment, then I would run 3 or 4 bars (depending on space dimentions) fore and aft, and then triangulate those. The problem with the "web" design is that is one weld fails in a rollover, the whole thing could buckle and collapse in on the passenger compartment.

After looking at the pics, I think that is indeed the passenger compartment.

Now that I have an idea of space, I'd go for something like this:
http://img138.echo.cx/img138/7064/bars24su.jpg

The two bars running forward will probably need a little arch in them for head room, but the side braces should take any load to them pretty well. This setup doesn't tiel all the tubes into one joint, so more then one weld would have to fail for a total collapse. In the "web" design, only one tube would be continuous, and every other would be two piece, so only one tube would have full strength after a weld failure. Also, depending on what type of terrain you plan on wheeling in, you may want to add some aluminum panels on top between the bars just in case you roll over into some soft sand or mud. The top would then better support the weight and hopefully keep it up long enough for you to escape instead of dumping you head down in a mud hole while you are locked in a harness. Just my .02

Thanks for all the input. If anyone has more input it's definately welcome.

Here is what I have mocked up right now, but I'm not happy with the front. It seems to have too much tube.
