i am a new scout owner. i just picked up a 61 scout with a half cab. it was bright pink when i bought it and is now black with a pink strip. lookes great. anyway i have 4 tires for sale. BIG tires. i am looking for some frontend work to be done to the scout i am in mesa AZ and woundered if any of you might know a good horse trading place hear. say tires for parts and labor? i can get pics of both the scout and the tires if i can get the camera to work.
thanks for your time and i am hopeing to find some new friends in the scout world lol
front end work in regards to a new steering system. I E ( tie rod, tie rod ends, ball joint, drag link. ) sorry for the confusion. i know have some new information on where i can get this kind of help and will try out the new info today. oh yeah the tires are 39.5 x 15 x 16.5 TSL super swampers. thought i would just throw that in there too.
thanks again.

I would hav to agree with you all on this aspect of us less fortunate ones that have to work for the money to build these toys. i say he double hocky stickes to them as well, as i drive by with my winch flapping in the wind. so thanks to you all and i will slither away and let you all have your web site. i do want to appoligse for any inconviance i have caused you all. NOT!!!! i am hear and if you dont like my questions then there is a think called "dont answer" the lesser one. and when i see you on the trails i will be the one thats better than those out there and will stop to pull the little guy out. so any way i am trying to get ride of some super swamper 39.5 x 15 x 16.5 TSL,s. ( because i'm scared of the big tires and dont know how to 4wheel) so i will try and see if any real 4x4 owners would like them insted.
and oh yeah thanks for the great howdy do. :D :flipoff2:

Jesus...Well then don't let your pussy drip on your shoes as you find the exit sign...

There is a thing called the "FOR SALE" section that you can list your tires in. That is the actual place that they belong...especially since they are not IH specific.

Post some pics of your bad boy machine...So that we can all see what it looks like. That way when you are playing "Oh so better than us because of our bad attitudes" we will know which abortion to stay way from...Then when you are wasting all of your time winching all of your little groupy bitches out from the sides of the trail....well we will just pass you up because our vannanay doesn't bleed when wet.

See ya later on if your skin is cracking from thinness cracka'

1) "came" should be "come".

2) "stired" is spelled s-t-i-r-r-e-d.

3) "glot" is spelled g-l-o-a-t

4) "holyer" is spelled h-o-l-i-e-r

5) "thEn" should be "thAn"

6) "adise" has a v between the "d" and the "i".

7) "there" should be "they're".

8) Don't end sentences with prepositions ("...site to be from.")

:flipoff2:

We're not all assholes here, believe it or not. The main point everybody is making is that there are other, better resources for finding answers and/or getting results for trying to pimp your tires. If and when you start asking questions here too, the level of questions that you are asking needs to be of the appropriate level or you'll get smashed again. Don't ask how to change your oil or where to get a water pump for a 152.

If you stand up and take what's dealt to you in here, you'll do fine and be able to find a lot of interesting information here. Take it or leave it, I guess.

Isnt there an Arizona 4x4 club that has an online forum, or something? I would think that would be the place to ask a question thats specific to location. If you would have hung around and read some of the posts here, you would realize it doesnt take a MB Engineer to figure this out. Its kinda like marrying your cousin. Its just one of those things that you should know not to do.

The closest place that i know of here in AZ is a small place called C and W Auto parts in phoenix. They deal just with scouts, and should have what you need. I believe that they are off of the I-10 and Jefferson. The number there is 602-254-4498. Im not sure if thats to far of a drive for you but i thought i would try and help. Goodluck

I work for cash and will teach you how to do it in the process... $30.00/hr is fair, since C&W or any other places will charge at least $75/hr and mark up the parts. Plan on at least six hours, maybe more if I drink some beers.

so - if I get this right - you want to put the drive train from the dodge under your Scout - except your not going to use the engine, tranny, transfer case, the suspension and the axles - so you want to use the drivelines???? Because what else would make up the drive train if you take out the engine, tranny, xfer, axles and suspension?????? :shaking:

Don't worry about anyone or what they may think. I have a Chev motor\trans\transfer case in my 75 Scout II. While I was doing the build up I cought TONS of flame from the die hard IH guys on another board that will remain nameless. But my attitude is HEre'S A QUARTER CALL SOMEONE WHO CARES.
Do what you want and let everyone else do their thing. If you were in my area I would be all over your offer as I am in the process of rounding up parts for my 78 Scout buggy project and 39's would be perfect. Utah is a little far away though.
Don't leave the board, we need all the Scout guys we can find. I go to Moab 3 or 4 times a year and all I see is jeeps. So it is nice to see someone else who loves Scouts and wants to learn. To everyone else: Give Dawg a break, you were all there at one time wheather it was the knowlege or money factor. The guy is trying to do what he can with what he has. Maybe you would prefer he just sent his Scout to the crusher and bought a Jeep.

Why in the hell would you run a ChevvvY engine in a Scout? Then you will probably do something silly like put Dodge axles under it and rear steer. Then you will want some damn 39.5 Boggers or 42" Irocks. Your flipping SILLY! :shaking: We are PURIST here!!!

You have some serious anger managment issues. Get some help.
1) Why would run a Chevy motor? Well lets see. First is horsepower\weight ratio. The 345 that came out of it was fine except it needed a rear main seal. The only problem was it weighed as much as a big block Chev and had 1\2 the power. A small block Chev was an easy call for me. Second is parts. The big deal with you PUREST IH guys is the Davis DUI distributor. A modification of the GM HEI at 4 times the cost of the real thing. Next lets look at EFI: Where I run in the rocks and 11,500 ft elevation EFI is a necesity. Now Affordable and Howell will set you up with an EFI unit for an IH motor this is true---- All new GM parts. Finally is cost and availibility. Try to find IH parts at 5 pm on Saturday in a town of 1,200 in any rural part of any state you may be in. Good luck and if you can you will PAY.

As far as being a purest lets look at that. Scouts came with several transmissions. The T-18 and T-19 by Borg Warner. Also used in Fords, Jeeps, Chevs etc. No purity there. If you got an automatic you got a TF727, a Chrysler trans, still no purity. How about transfer cases. First was the Spicer 18, also used in Jeeps. Next was the Dana 20---- Jeeps and Broncos. Finally the Dana 300 (for 1 year) Jeeps again. On to Axles. First was the Dana 44 rear and a Dana 27 in front. Again used in Jeeps and who knows what else. Next came a Dana 30 front---- sorry no purity here as they also came in Jeeps, Broncos and plenty others. Finally a Dana 44 front. Well this was used in just about everything you can name including your hated Chev's and Jeeps as well as Ford's, Dodges and others.
So with the exception of engines, where is the purity.
As far as the full width axles go what is the differance between pulling a 6o rear and a 44 front from a Dodge and swapping them in and pulling a 60 rear and a 44 front from a full size IH truck and swapping them in?
There is a board for as you refer to them purest IH guys called the BINDER BULLETIN (great bunch of guys by the way) check it out.
Lets keep it nice before there are no Scouts left. Every time I am out on the trail I get alot of comments of how it is nice to see something other than Jeeps on the trail. My 75 Scout II XLC was rescued from the wrecking yard crusher so there is one more Scout that will live alot longer. You do it your way and let everyone else do it their way. No need for the insults.

You sure are without a doubt THE MAN. Shadow lays his purest line on me (slams me for full width axles and a Chev motor) about IH all or nothing and you come back at me with the 1-900 line. Tell me I am wrong with anything I said and prove it. All I heard was gutter talk. But hey like I said you are THE MAN. As far as me (as you stated) drifting in here I would be intrested to know where you drifted in from with the trash you spew out. I made a simple point to Dawg that he should build what ever makes him happy and how it was nice to see someone saving a Scout from the crusher. I guess that is not what you are intrested in considering the flame and trash talk you are throwing. It's only OK to build a Scout if it is done your way.

As far as Smokes picture he posted I saw that Scout in the Mag and it sure looks IH Purest to me. I didn't know that Scouts came with 1 ton axles and BB Chev motors. You learn something every day.

It's to bad that the few of us that are left that are willing to put in the work and time\money to put some of the finest vehicles ever made back on the trail and not take the easy way out like so many others can't even get along with other IH owners. Maybe I will leave this board because all I am hearing is MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY. At least the Jeep\Bronco\Landcruiser guys are happy to have anyone around who shares their love of fourwheeling and not just their way of doing it.

You know Harvester I will keep building and wheeling and maybe some day you can hook up with us in Moab and we will head up Rusty Nail or Pritchett Canyon and you can show us all how it is done.

See ya----- S&R

P.S. keep learning and building it Dawg take my word for it the first time you take it out it is all worth it.

Why so much anger? I know good rigs when I see them and I saw Shadows Scout in the Mag and it is in fact a very fine rig. I just don't understand the trash talk that Harvester was throwing around. Is the sexual conitations and such what is expected here ? If so I should leave as you suggest, because that is not what I am about. We learn new things every day from alot of places. I guess I also don't understand how you can say that someone knows more than someone else will ever know when you have never meet one of them or seen what they can build.
It's all about the wheeling and building the rigs and trying new things (at least from my point of view) and if we can't do that then what is the use at all. Thanks for the kind words and compliments.
Dawg if I can help in any way please send me a PM. I will be glad to do whatever I can.

On a final note I will tell you about my Scout. A 75 XLC with the following done over the last two years.
First was the tub. Due to rust the majority of the floor was replaced ( weld in with new metal) and new second body mounts. The entire interior of the tub was done with spray in truck bed liner.
Mechanical\Drivetrain--- A fully rebuilt 1970 350 Chev truck engine with RV cam, HV oil pump and forged pistons. Heads were done with hardened seats, three angle valve grind, Erson springs, retainers and keepers. HEI ignition, TBI fuel injection ( going on now due to delay in ECM being burned). Trans is an SM-465 with hydraulic clutch. Transfer case is NP-205. Suspension is SOA on stock springs. For the front I narrowed ( yes I did it my self) a 3\4 ton Chev Dana 44 with castor set at 5 deg and now 3\4 ton Chev outters and a Powertrax no-slip locker. Steering is Avalanche crossover with 3\4 ton tie rod ends. First rear was the factory Dana 44 with a no-slip and hardened Superior shafts. Going in now is a FF Dana 60 with 35 spline Mosser shafts and an Eaton E locker.
It rides on 35" MTR\s.
I guess that building this my self and wheeling some of the toughest trails Utah has to offer ( Moab, XL Canyon and The Devils Racetrack to name a few) still doesn't qualify me to hang out here so I will be on my way. I will just keep building and if you happen to see me on the trail say Hello because I will as I am friendly to all, especially Scout guys.
Enjoy the Binders and help out the new guys so the Scouts are not forgotten.
See Ya on the trail------- S&R--- failure is not an option

wow...my personal efforts to return the PBB back to it's original violent and scary place seems to be working :cool2:

My friend...you obviously need to step back out of the water and sit at the edge of the perverbial pool. For if you have gotten all butt hurt from my little comments then you will have some issues with this entire site. It is not a place to be so naive.

One thing I noticed is that your radar doesn't seem to be picking up sarcasm, or inuendo. This is the Interweb and you are on PIRATE4x4.com the largest hardcore, extreme, rockcrawling and 4x4 site on the Interweb. There will be, and quite frequently is some great chest thumping...I mean shit, just reading how I got your panties all balled up made me take my shirt and shoes off, dance around my apartment singing, flinging arms and hooting :smokin:

Your truck sounds nice, and it is really great to hear that you did the work on it. I mean that too....for you are correct, everyone has been there one day or another. That day is the one that you bring your first toy home. It might have a bashed windshield, dripping diffs, be closer to the ground than a ricer...but there is something in the shape, the look, maybe the glimmer of the sun reflection off of the grime on the hood. You can see it, the potential, the promise, the goal...

Though on this site...we don't really give a fuck about those stages anymore...and we cuss a little...Throw some tech in the chef salad with a little rim job...piss in the fire, and laugh at the new guys for being new.

Hope you can handle that and stick around  posting pics of your shit really helps garner some respect out of the gate too...especially if they are wheeling pics...I assume you have some of those wheeling on some of the hardest trails evaaaar...(that was sarcasm newbie)

Though on this site...we don't really give a fuck about those stages anymore...and we cuss a little...Throw some tech in the chef salad with a little rim job...piss in the fire, and laugh at the new guys for being new.

Hope you can handle that and stick around  posting pics of your shit really helps garner some respect out of the gate too...especially if they are wheeling pics...I assume you have some of those wheeling on some of the hardest trails evaaaar...(that was sarcasm newbie)
man, your getting soft again.

Mr. SRS. Please don't leave. Listen, you don't have to come on here making excuses why you have an IH and the reasoning behind your build. I give ANY IH guy props because IH rigs are unique and to build one shows that you think outside the box. Other words you’re not the average bellybutton Heep wannabe. You have advanced past the bolt on buildups.
You will find in this little world here, Guys that know their shit, but like me will not and hate to answer petty questions that are common knowledge, at least to us. Now if you’re stuck on something, these guys probably know the solution. Someone here I will bet has been there and done that. This is a knowledge based group that as a lot of experience...
In other words, we have some smart Dicks here. :flipoff2:
Moab. I would enjoy wheeling with other Scouts. I’m there every Heep Safari, except the last one. I will be there this October. I actually enjoy running Pritchett and then Behind The Rocks, The hard way, backwards. I have to pull the Heeps up White Knuckle though. If you are there, look for me at the Motels in the morning. If you want to wheel with us, expect body damage. I wheel with friends that have buggys and all the way down to bolt on Heeps. We also wheel at night, so bring a lunch and dinner. :smokin:

Shadow
I had intended my last post to be my final here but I will respond to yours. I know how things go sometimes and I had about given up IH boards because of all the flaming from the so called pure IH guys who jumped my shit for the Chev motor swap and all the rest. I have built several rigs including a 79 Toyota pickup with a small block Chev ( done before there was a kit ) because everyone said it couldn't be done. So me and one of my old drag race cronies cooked it up. Next came a 73 Bronco with a 351 Windsor swap, lifted and 35's. After that a J**P CJ on 33's. I had been out of it for awhile what with a new house, a new son etc. About 3 years ago the bug hit again and this time hard as hell. The money was in place and it was time to build. I live about 180 miles from Moab and am through there about 1 or twice a week for my work so I still was seeing what was going on.
I decided that J**ps were never going to happen again for me ( none of the lookie here, I'm just like everyone else) because no matter what you build there are 10,000 more just like it. I had always liked Scouts so it seemed like the way to go. I found a 75 XLC in a wrecking yard about 40 miles from home, hooked up the hauler and brought it home. After two years of work it was ready for the first trip out and damn I forgot how much I missed it. I took alot of flame from the guys on another board ( you guess which one) during my build and when I found this one I thought things would be differant. So when the flaming started here I figured here we go again and got a little defensive.
Anyhow as Jerry Garcia said "what a long strange journey it has been" and I hope it's a long way from over. I usually get the rig's ( the earlier one's and now the Scout) to Moab 3 or 4 times a year so if you are going to be there let me know as far in advance as you can and I would love to beat up some rocks with you. Pritchette is a kick in the ass and you should give the up Rusty Nail and down Goldbar rim run a shot if you havn't already. Real nice run.
Anyway I will be here for awhile, sometimes up front, and sometimes in the background. Keep the board going and building the Ol Binders for they are without a doubt the best out there and no matter what they will never be a cookie cutter like a J**P
See ya guys. S&R----- failure is NOT an option :

Hey Urban
The current Scout is keeping 35's because of the street legal issue. Our inspection laws here in Utah really suck. There is a buggy project that I have in the planning stages for a pretty much wasted 78 Scout II that was sent my way. For it we have planned 39" IROKS, front 60, rear Corp 14, SB Chev and the full buggy treatment. We will see how it turns out as far as rounding up the needed parts. When it starts I will post the domain and have a build up log on it.
Dawg don't get so red assed, hang around and accept that alot of wheelers ( especially anyone insane enough to mess with scouts) are totally crazy but also a damn good bunch. Keep it in perspective. Stay with it and when you see us on the trail just say HI and we will be damn glad to see you and not just another cookie cutter J**P.
S&R---- That other may live

Hey deputy? ASk the questions, ignore the bullshit, and the people that dont mind answering questions, will answer them. There is no need for you to argue with them, because that is just what they want you to do. Have a nice fukin day.
